Meet Gina Suggs

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gina Suggs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gina, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Staying true to myself is the best way to overcome imposter syndrome. My daily routines keep me grounded. I stretch to clear my mind and get my blood flowing. I limit my screen time to understand that everything we see on social media is not reality. I also make sure I look and feel my best at all times. when your self confidence is high, you don’t need to be anyone else but yourself. I’m proud of myself.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Kids C.A.R.E was founded by Suggs to provide exceptional educational support for families seeking quality schooling through leadership, arts and culture. Her goal has and will always be to make a positive impact on her community. Kids Center for Academic Resources and Education (Kids C.A.R.E.) is one of Atlanta’s premier private institutes servicing students from K3 through 5th grade.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Trusting the process, researching the industry, and making my job fund my business were the three top thing s that go the to where I am now. Trusting the process means that I stayed true to my vision and never let anything or anybody deter me from the end goal, which was opening my own center. By doing my research on the industry, I was able to really make a plan and schedule on what things I need to do in order to be successful. And making my 9-5 job fund my business was very beneficial. I was able to save and be frugal which allowed me to not have to rely solely on loans to start my business. I had capital.

For those new to their journey, I would advise making sure you do your part in securing your future. When you put the work in, it will show.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents put me in every kind of summer camp available when I was growing up. I went to sewing camp, wilderness camp, Camp Broadway, sports camp, art camp, etc. Going to all of these camps put me in an environment that allowed me to chose my own interests. I was bale to see what I was good at and be well rounded. The more experiences you have at young ages shapes you into a person of knowledge of many industries.
