Meet Giselle Lelux

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Giselle Lelux. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Giselle below.

Hi Giselle, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
This was one of the biggest reasons why I felt so passionate about writing “The Influencer’s Handbook”. I am a true believer that the harder you want something and the harder you work towards that something all the negativity around you and disadvantages somehow blur away.

Looking back at my journey there have been so many times were I was at a disadvantage. Where I was the only one that was like me and where I was the likely choice to fail.

Yes, it’s hard to lift yourself up when you are the only one in the room who looks like you and when that first impression is being used to build a narrative of who you are supposed to be but you can’t let that hold you back.

I believe anyone can be a content creator, regardless of what their niche is, who they are, what their makeup is or what they look like. Becoming an influencer is all about being consistent and showing up for yourself.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have been a full-time content creator for 4 years and have a couple of profiles for my different types of content I publish. I love posting about things to do and places to go to in San Diego, specially foodie spots.

Throughout my influencer journey I have met many talented content creators and have learned so much about the social media industry. I have always wanted to find a way to empower others to do what they love so when I discovered the lack of authentic advice on how to become a content creator I knew I had a shot at creating something that could do just that.

In my new book, The Influencer’s Handbook, I document the process of becoming a content creator, defining your personal brand, growing your brand, getting collaborations and so much more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Hard work, being able to tune-out negative people and being consistent.

Becoming an influencer is not just about taking pretty pictures or having a large following. It’s no different than setting out to master a new language or learn a new craft, it requires being consistent, patience and lots of patience.

My biggest advice for someone who is trying to become a content creator is to define their goals and work towards them. There are many ways to get followers, but if your goal is to be a paid influencer make sure that you are set up to allow yourself those opportunities

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to connect further with our community of content creators in the Southern California area. Both with stablished influencers who are looking to inspire others to follow in their footsteps and new up-incoming content creators!

If you fall into either of these two groups, send me a DM!
