We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gloria Staats a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gloria , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
One of the most significant contributors to my work ethic has been my mother’s influence. Growing up, my mother worked tirelessly to provide for my brother and me, while also emphasizing the importance of personal growth and hard work. From a young age, I watched my mother balance work and family responsibilities with grace and determination. Despite facing many challenges, she always remained committed to her goals and worked tirelessly to achieve them. Her example instilled in me a deep appreciation for hard work and a desire to emulate her work ethic.
Over time, I have come to value the importance of personal growth and continuous learning, just like my mother did. I strive to challenge myself and take on new opportunities, even when they push me out of my comfort zone.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey of personal and professional growth, I have found three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been most impactful. These are psychology, love of traveling and learning, and passion for color and its influence on our emotions and behavior.
Firstly, studying psychology has helped me understand human behavior and the way people think, feel.
Secondly, my love of traveling and learning has allowed me to explore different cultures and broaden my worldview. This has helped me become more open-minded, empathetic and adaptable. I also believe that our history has a place in our homes, and helping my clients find the treasures they want to enjoy and share is a big part of our design process.
Lastly, my passion for color and its influence on our emotions and behavior has helped me understand how to use color to create moods and evoke emotions while designing a space.
Finding one’s “why” and developing it can be a powerful tool in creating a successful business. By understanding what drives us and what we are passionate about, we can create a business that aligns with our values and beliefs, making it more fulfilling and sustainable in the long run.
Love of traveling and exploring new perspectives is also a valuable trait for a service provider. It allows us to be learners before we serve, which is crucial in understanding and meeting our clients’ needs. By broadening our horizons and experiencing different cultures and ways of thinking, we can bring a fresh perspective to our work and offer innovative solutions.
In conclusion, finding our “why” and leveraging our strengths, as well as being open to new experiences and perspectives, can be powerful tools in creating a successful venture and providing exceptional service to our clients.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my insights.
