Meet Hana Ali

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hana Ali. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hana below.

Hi Hana, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I believe my ability to take risks is embedded into my fearless approach to life and my mindset when it comes to failure. I’ve been able to embrace failure as a learning opportunity and focus on the lessons gained from each of my experiences.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
About 12 years ago I stumbled into what most people know me for today: makeup artist turned beauty mogul, CEO, and founder.

My journey began from a conversation with a friend that piqued my interest into the world of makeup artistry. That one conversation led to working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, traveling around the world, teaching hundreds of students across the country, launching an organic, skincare line, countless awards and accolades, and a career that now spans close to 10 years as a full-time entrepreneur in the beauty industry.

I think what most people tend to find most exciting about my journey is my decision to leave corporate America and pursue a career I had zero knowledge about.

What I most proud of currently is my decision to coach, mentor, and employ other makeup artists with the launch of my makeup agency, The Makeup M.O.B.B. I have 13 amazingly talented professionals that each bring their own unique skillset and expertise to my organization.

More recently, I launched an all-natural, organic skincare line, Hana Ali Beauty™️. My mission is to empower individuals to embrace their unique beauty by providing high-quality, natural skincare products that nourish, protect, and enhance the health of their skin.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I feel that one of the best qualities I possess that was definitely a driving force in the early stages of my career, was being focused and tuning out distractions. And by distractions I mean people, unfortunate circumstances, being told no, missed opportunities, unpreparedness, and anything that had the potential to make me quit!

Secondly, I was extremely disciplined and this is where many people fall short. Discipline is crucial for entrepreneurs because it provides the structure and focus needed to navigate the challenges of running a business. It helps in setting and achieving goals, managing time effectively, making informed decisions, and maintaining consistency. Without discipline, you may as well hang it up!

Lastly, I am always a student regardless of how much success I attain. It allows me to stay ahead of industry trends, explore innovative approaches, and foster a mindset of continuous improvement. Success is often a result of staying informed and evolving with the ever-changing landscape, preventing complacency and enhancing your ability to seize new opportunities.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Being a full-time entrepreneur and business owner can become extremely overwhelming at times. It’s necessary to understand it’s ok to ask for help and take a step back to regain perspective.

I’ll end my interview by listing 8 strategies that always help me anytime I’m feeling overwhelmed;

1. Prioritize Tasks: Identify and focus on the most critical tasks first.

2. Break it Down: Divide tasks into smaller, manageable steps for a sense of accomplishment.

3. Delegate: Don’t hesitate to delegate tasks if possible; you don’t have to do everything alone.

4. Time Management: Set realistic deadlines and use time-blocking techniques to allocate time efficiently.

5. Take Breaks: Step away briefly to clear your mind. Short breaks can enhance productivity.

6. Ask for Support: Seek guidance or support from colleagues, friends, or mentors.

7. Mindfulness Techniques: Practice mindfulness or deep breathing to reduce stress and regain focus.

8. Learn to Say NO: Understand your limits and don’t be afraid to decline additional commitments.
