We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Miller. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.
Hi Hannah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I feel that I have developed resilience through a combination of factors, such as a strong work ethic, a willingness to take risks, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Additionally, facing and overcoming challenges in the course of building and growing a business and as an Interior Designer can also contribute to resilience. Time has also provided opportunities for reflection and learning from my past mistakes. Lastly don’t give up! Don’t be discouraged if you face challenges along the way. Keep pushing forward, and don’t give up on your dream.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a mom of five, married for 24 years, and an experienced interior designer. I have a passion for creating beautiful and functional spaces that reflect the personalities and lifestyles of my clients. As a mother of five, I understand the importance of creating a comfortable and practical home environment for families. My years of marriage have also taught me the importance of designing spaces that reflect the personalities and tastes of both partners.
With over 8 years of experience in the industry, I have honed my skills in space planning, color consultation, renovation and project management. I have a talent for understanding my clients’ needs and translating them into functional and visually appealing designs. I also have a great eye for detail and can create custom pieces that add a personal touch to any room.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Creativity: As an interior designer, creativity is essential in order to develop unique and visually appealing design solutions for clients. To develop and improve your creativity, try experimenting with different design styles and techniques, and look for inspiration in art, architecture, and other design-related fields.
Technical Skills: As an Interior designer you need to have a strong understanding of building codes, materials, and construction techniques. To develop and improve your technical skills, consider taking classes or workshops in these areas, and seek out opportunities to work with architects and builders.
Communication and Project Management: Being able to effectively communicate with clients and manage projects is crucial for the success of an interior designer. To develop and improve your communication and project management skills, practice active listening, and try to understand your clients’ needs and preferences. Additionally, take courses or workshops on project management, and learn how to develop and stick to a budget and schedule.
How would you describe your ideal client?
As an Interior designer, my ideal client would be someone who is open-minded, willing to take risks, and has a clear vision for their space. They also value my expertise and are open to suggestions and advice, but also provide their own input and ideas. They have a budget and realistic expectations, and are willing to invest time and resources into the design process. They are also communicative, willing to provide feedback and collaborate with me throughout the design process. It’s important that they trust me as their designer and willing to work together to create a space that reflects their personal style and meets their functional needs.
