Meet Harley Wallen

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Harley Wallen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Harley, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think having a little bit of imposter syndrome is an all honesty, a good thing, and some thing that keeps you grounded as delusions of grandeur may tug at you as you hit a peak. I think it’s important to remember that you’re likely not as good as your hype, and not as bad as your worst critic. But when you do the work and focus on what matters which to me is the journey, I feel most of the time the imposter syndrome feelings don’t get out of hand.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Insured what I do is make movies. I am excited that I have found my self a Filmmaker and an actor having the ability to do these things full-time. It’s a blessing that I absolutely don’t take lightly.. My latest project is a horror thriller with some mystery that tackles family life and to top that complexity off we add a 1000 plus year Vampire into the mix as if it wasn’t hard enough already. It releases on VOD and Limited Theaters on 9/19 with a pretty incredible cast.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
That’s a great question, and I think fundamentally it begins and ends with my parents growing up, instilling into me a very strong, work ethic but also learning that when I work hard I can accomplish most things I set out to do. I also think spending my entire life in martial arts has been very helpful to me because I have learned how important discipline is.. lastly, my years in the corporate world I think allowed me to learn that I don’t need to have all the answers. I think that makes it possible for me to not be intimidated by other strong minds on my sets and in my teams.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am definitely always looking for people to collaborate with because I believe the talented people want to work with other talented people so the cream generally always rises to the top. People that create community are my favorite people! There is nothing better than having your crew and cast feel like an extension of your self in almost a family, it should generally suck a little bit when you wrap a film and you don’t get to live in that particular fantasy world anymore.
