Meet Heavy Bandz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heavy Bandz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heavy below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Heavy with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from those I see hustling. I get my work ethic from studying certain people I’ve been around. My drive, my passion, my enthusiasm, and my creativity… It is fueled by many things. I’ve also learned that nobody is going to hustle harder, for what I want to accomplish in life. That is the reason, I’m constantly working.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I own and operate the independent label Money Goonz Muzik. I’ve been running this label, for almost six years now. I’ve released and distributed albums/compilations/singles from SpenDoe, Day Day, C-DUBB, 2NDLIFE, Heavy Bandz, and others. First off, I’m a huge music fan. I listen to all types of music. I enjoy taking what I’ve learned about the music business, and applying it to the projects I release. As a creator, I get excited about creating. Creating material that is infused with your own personal feelings and vibes… it is definitely therapeutic.

I love to hear what others think/feel about the music I release. Whether it is a song I created, or something I released from another artist. There are many ways to reach your listeners.

I plan on branching out, and signing some artists/groups in the near future. Right now, it is about building. We have the music, the visuals, and the merchandise being lined up.

The label…

“Money Goonz Muzik” was a name I came up with, based on my hustle. It is based on my drive, and determination to succeed. The logo is a ski masked character, that is biting on some money. The ski mask represents my desire to remain behind the scenes, and unseen for the most part. The money that is being bit, that represents the hunger. As an artist, I know it sounds crazy to remain unseen. I’m very low-key.

I have 4-5 songs available, right now. I’ve featured on albums, that I released. As a solo artist, My debut collaboration single “Let It Go” with China Mc Cloud, is available on all music platforms.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m open-minded, attentive to detail, and always willing to learn. I graduated from college with a degree in business administration. When it comes to building, and being independent… a person must be focused, and willing to go the distance. There are going to be many doubts, sleepless nights, and times you will be at war with yourself. Stay the course, and give it your all. Don’t be afraid to try new things. It’s always great to be innovative. If you have someone that you can study from, reach out. Most community colleges offer business courses online/in-person. I applied what I learned in college, to what I am doing in music.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Letting me be myself. I didn’t have much oversight. As a kid, I roamed free. I was able to be around people from all walks of life. I was using the public transit at 7-8 years old. Because of this, I was able to find myself, and what I was interested in.

Thankfully, nothing too crazy happened back then. Times have changed, a lot.
