Helen, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Confidence comes from feelings of well being , belief in your own ability, and skills. To become someone very confident in your personality doesn’t happen overnight it takes some time and experience. I have gain confidence in myself through the development of positive thinking, recognize the situations that seem to deflate my self esteem, accepting that it is ok to make mistake and I’m running my own race,l. I don’t have to compare with other people because everyone is running their own race and every one is living their own process in a unique way . My father used to tell me like every single fingerprint is unique in your hand. The same way is the process that you are living in your life. Being honest I have learnt to love my self since I turned 25 years old because In the previous age I used to accept statements were not kind to myself.
When I turned 25 I started to accept who I am , welcome mistakes as part of growth and surround myself with supportive people.
This is one of the biggest mistake the majority of the people who suffer with low confidence is that they don’t recognize how bad is to be surrounded by people who Drain your energy and willingness.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have started in the flooring industry on 2017, I was motivated to be enrolled in this industry because my brother he used to work in it since 2008 . It was a long time he had been doing the work and gained so much experience. I felt in love with the jobs he did and every week he used to showed me the pictures from his work. For me it looked like art. I was so curious to start working in this industry but at the same time I felt nervous because this is part of the construction fiel which is dominated 99% by men. Im so blessed to have a supportive parents when I mentioned to my mother and father about the project they were the number one to encourage me to do project and not only leave it on a piece of paper written down the project , they encourage to make come true the project of the floors .
This is how I started the company Sinbad the enchanted floors . What makes special this company first is by woman own business . It’s a business operated by woman and it means every single detail will be discuss carefully in every work. Because as a women we are all well know by being very detailed. All women loves details and we are famous to be very professional and perfectionist in every work developed by women . own business .
As owner of small business I wear many hats like some other business owner face this challenge.
I can’t deny that my background helped me a lot to stablished the business plan to start the project. Once I did some marketing search, my potential customers to identify which one was going to be my nicho and target market. All these knowledge I have acquired in my career industrial engineer degree with quality management. All this knowledge was the main key to pursuit my dream and make come true to bring the project into the reality.
In the beginning I was afraid to speak over the phone so I visit a cleaning carpet company and volunteer over there to practice the customer service over the phone . They provide me over 200 names of customers to reach them about the customer experience with the company . This is something that helped me a lot to build myself with great customer experience.
Since I started the business I have attended many courses from Bona to polish all the knowledge and get well educated about hardwood floors, sanding process and installation.I have taken this course to bring the best service to all of our customers. And being updated with the lasted trends in floors design techniques related to the home decor.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I look back 7 years ago. One of the important quality is being resilient. Because running a successful company and starting a new business requires of being resilient because the company relies on numerous unpredictable factors and when the things go wrong you can’t set back and cry. You have to think that for every problem there is a solution and a resilient mindset will help you to solve quickly.
2. Being visionary , this is why is very important to create a business plan where you will establish the vision , having a clear idea of what you are working towards is vital. It’s important to understand why you are working so hard because of this will take you to your desire position as a company.
3. Working hard , is the third skill I can mention that will lead you to achieve your goal.
Because good leader they don’t live day dreaming, they work so hard every day by taking some actions to achieve their goals and if is necessary they put an extra push with no excuse to complete their task.
All these 7 years what helped me to be in the market is the hardworking as well because my customers appreciate my work and the long hours I stayed at their houses to finish their job on time and with the best quality. This is something I have received so many compliments .
I advice for those folks who are in the early stage of the journey I Recomended them to work hard, keep positive, don’t get discouraged and it is ok to make mistakes. No one ever born being an expert ..it takes practice, and practice to become an expert in your field
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents are the most helpful people to taught me how to overcome the challenges. Whenever I had to face a difficult situation I think about how my parents did to overcome so many obstacles in their journey to achieve their goals in their life plan. One of the essential skill and quality to be successful is having a positive mindset this is developed in the process of growing up with positive role model which has a great impact to make the best decisions without compromise our values which we have risen with and deny negative influences from peers.
My father who passed away on march 16th this year, I have learn the willingness, he was always willing to take chances is order to achieve his goals . This is something I will always admire because he had strong vision for the future and tenacity. He never attended school , neither kindergarten and my mother taught him only math from home. He just learn the basic in math how to make sum and mas to play with the number. My mother she has a lot of creativity and always able to adapt to work under different circumstances. She is my warrior. She is a breast cancer survivor from 17 years ago . I have learnt from my mom to work with passion and motivation.
