Meet Henry McGannon

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Henry McGannon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Henry with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I believe my work ethic comes from fear. I am terrified of not achieving my goals. I am not sure what success looks like to me, I know it’s not about the money. But I won’t be happy until I have made something that people love and respect.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At RealGolfers we want to grow the game of golf. We’re trying to do this in a couple ways. The first way is making our golf shirts affordable. We know that not every golfer can afford to spend $90, $100 on a polo. So we want to make amazing apparel for those guys and girls. We make apparel that is designed carefully, it’s gear that we would want to wear ourselves. We would never release a product that we wouldn’t be stoked to wear. The quality of our products is what we care about the most. The second way we’re trying to grow the game is by donating 10% of our sales to the First Tee of Greater Charleston. The First Tee is an incredible organization that helps get into golf, and stay in golf. The ways they help local kids off the course is just as important as the on the course stuff.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
At the beginning, I would say I had zero skills that translate into being a successful entrepreneur. I am still not totally sure exactly what skills I have that are the most impactful on this journey. The first one that comes to mind is my ability to talk to people, especially about golf. I am always happy to chat about golf, and this is a great way for me to tell others about my business. The second skill would probably be my ability to ask for help. I don’t know how to do most things I need to do. But through mentorship of some great local entrepreneurs I am slowly figuring it out. Third would probably be my ability to work after work. I still caddy full time at the Ocean Course, and hopping on the computer after carrying two golf bags all day can be tough.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My friend Sean Holmes has certainly been more helpful than anyone else along this path. He is the owner and founder of Nectar Sunglasses. Any time I have a question about anything from email marketing to how to correctly take a purchase order, he is the guy I reach out to and he never hesitates to help. In my opinion, he is a very successful entrepreneur and is still moving forward with his goals. There has also been a few times I have been feeling down on myself about growth of my company being slower than I would like, and he has always had words of encouragement for me.
