Meet Heroek

We recently connected with Heroek and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Heroek with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Throughout my life, I’ve taken in and admired the work ethic of Kobe Bryant. Growing up, he was always my favorite basketball player, and I loved hearing the stories of how he would obsess over improving his game. Even after his playing career, he continued to work hard and aim to dominate anything he tried. From winning an Oscar to writing books, I see that having a great work ethic can help you achieve your goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a young music producer, artist, and podcast host. Starting out as a YouTube content creator, I eventually shifted into making mashups of songs and uploading them to YouTube. I later fell in love with the production side of music, and began working on my own original music, inspired by some of my favorite artists. I’ve released both solo and collaborative music, and have always been completely independent. My goal is to continue making music of my own, as well as with collaborators, that helps send a message of positivity and improving one’s mental health. I also host my own podcast, Hero’s Journey, where I talk to music artists and other public figures about their careers, and how they got started.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think experimentation, or not being afraid to try things, helped me greatly. My passion for music production only came as a result of trying a Digital Music class my freshman year of high school. And while some people may look at starting a podcast as some big feat, my thought process was basically “why not?” At the time, we had been in the pandemic, and it gave me a way to meet interesting people and create connections.

For most of my childhood, I was pretty introverted. I would want to hang out with my close friends, and cherish the time, but didn’t feel a need to go out and meet new people beyond that. However, after moving across the US at 13 years old, I was almost forced to put some effort into coming out of my shell and meeting new people. That helped me become slightly more extroverted, even though I still classify myself as an introvert overall, and develop a knack to feel confident reaching out to people. On my podcast, I’ve talked with music artists, comedians, and even politicians, and my friends have, at times, said things like “Oh, well you’re not gonna get them to come on.” My mentality was always “Ok. I either don’t reach out and have a 0% chance, or reach out and maybe get a 1% chance. 1 is better than none.”

Finally, as cliche as it sounds, the final quality I would share would simply just be passion. Everything I do, from music, podcasting, YouTube uploads, comes from a genuine interest and passion for that subject. I find ways to send my passion out into the world, and technology gives me a way to find people that enjoy those same things.
