We recently connected with Ignacio Arreola-Vidal and have shared our conversation below.
Ignacio, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
Patience…
Frustration is not uncommon in the creative world. Not everyone manages it accordingly, so the best way to overcome it is to develop the proper amount of patience. When frustration diminishes, it’s time to be more proactive and push yourself out of the block.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In general, I am a filmmaker, director, writer, producer, and Director of Photography. Most of my work involves being a DP or camera operator. As I write these lines, I am working on producing and co-directing a horror anthology film (my second one) called ‘Periculum’. It is a very ambitious collaborative project that focuses on San Antonio, TX and its unsettling urban legends. In this collaboration, I am working with The Alamo Film Group to bring this movie to life. We are also looking for sponsors and investors so we can pay our filmmakers properly. If anyone wants to know more and is interested in sponsoring this independent film, you can contact me at paragonpromeproductions@gmail.com.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
While passion is a vital component in any creative endeavor, it is not sufficient on its own. This may be a difficult concept for some to accept, often leading to personal offense. However, let me clarify. When you embark on a creative project, be it a film, a painting, or a photograph, your passion alone will not equip you with the necessary knowledge and techniques. Despite the common misconception, art is not entirely subjective. While our perception of art is indeed subjective, the art itself is objective. Elements such as lighting, framing, motivation, and background all require specific techniques. These techniques are acquired primarily through practice and repetition, learning from your mistakes, and making necessary corrections.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Currently, my primary focus is on securing sponsors or investors for our project, ‘Periculum’. We are planning to commence shooting in September 2024. We can provide all the necessary details, including percentages and a comprehensive business plan that includes distribution. If you’re considering sponsorship, it’s important to note that any donation can be tax-deductible through The Alamo Film Group, a non-profit organization.
