We were lucky to catch up with Ilona Selina recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ilona with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I believe that my work ethic is deeply rooted in my upbringing. It instilled in me a sense of independence and accountability. Additionally, the structured environments of my school and university years played a significant role in shaping my approach to work. They taught me the importance of organization, discipline, and meeting deadlines.
Moreover, I have had the privilege of working with amazing clients throughout my career. This experience has been a significant motivator for me. I understand the value of their time and trust, and I do not want to waste any of it. Knowing that my work impacts others positively drives me to maintain high standards and continuously improve.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the founder of Route Marketing, I’m deeply committed to guiding startups and small businesses through the dynamic and often complex world of digital marketing. My journey as a content creator and digital marketing expert has been marked by a series of successful integrated partnerships, spanning both digital and experiential platforms. What excites me the most about Route Marketing is the opportunity to employ innovative strategies that help our clients stand out in the competitive digital landscape. It’s all about crafting unique digital narratives that resonate with their target audience.
In addition to my work at Route Marketing, I am thrilled to share news about the upcoming launch of my jewelry brand in 2024, Okashi Paris. This venture is particularly close to my heart, serving as a creative outlet and a passion project. The brand is designed to showcase my artistic side, offering unique and fun pieces that reflect my personal style and creativity. I’m looking forward to this exciting new chapter.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
These three qualities stand out: being a team player, cultivating respectfulness, and demonstrating initiative with a keenness to learn.
Immerse yourself in collaborative projects and value the diverse perspectives within your team. Practice empathy and active listening in all professional interactions. And seize every opportunity, especially those outside your comfort zone. These experiences are where I found that the most significant growth happens.
My advice for those at the start of their careers is to boldly embrace challenges and unfamiliar territories. It’s in these moments that your skills and perspectives are truly honed.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle has been a key book in my development, teaching me the importance of living in the present. Its core lessons include focusing on the present moment for better decision-making, appreciating the ‘now’ in both business and life, and understanding the benefits of mindfulness. These insights have greatly helped in reducing stress and enhancing productivity by reminding me that what matters most is what’s happening right in front of me.
