We recently connected with Ingrid Pagliarulo and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ingrid with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I have developed a good work ethic first and foremost thanks to my parents who taught me education, a sense of responsibility and respect for everything around me and for all people. From them I learned moral principles, values and attitudes on how to act in life as well as at work.
I started working in tourism and hospitality very young, so I soon experimented with the things I learned and I was able to see that punctuality, seriousness, respect, dedication and a positive attitude are winning cards.
While I have had good and bad teachers, I have made the best of each experience. I put my heart into everything I do without sparing myself and I have never stopped studying. I still do this and it’s what helps me improve and grow.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I deeply love life. I am an enthusiast and live with an open heart. I began my professional career working first as an artist then as a manager in the entertainment and guest services industry and I gained other experience in various professional fields, such as publishing and entertainment journalism.
When I moved to Los Angeles I worked as an author, journalist and talent scout. Today I work as an artist manager, producer and editor. My job is still to give visibility to talented artists, but this time I do it through publishing.
The dry climate and polluted air of California harmed my health. It is so bad for me who lived for many years on the “Costa degli Dei”, in Southern Italy, where the air is clean, the land is rich and the waters clear.
Exposure, as a journalist, to television antennas has damaged my thyroid. Not using medicines, I was forced to find a valid alternative remedy.
First I changed my diet, then I eliminated those supermarket products that I still used, such as household detergents, and I decided to prepare them with my hands, using natural ingredients, dusting off the “primitive” teachings of my paternal grandmother, who used to make herbal products and galenic preparations for work, and grandmothers I met in Southern Italy. Finally I turned my life around.
The owner of the house where I lived, in the hills of Hollywood, allowed me to use the backyard where I had the opportunity to plant and grow vegetables, fruit and medicinal herbs with immensely rewarding results. I later graduated from the herbal academy and so I opened a small business.
I created “Parvafolium” (Latin: “little leaf”) which deals with natural skin care and herbal remedies. I create products such as soaps, moisturizing creams, body waters, perfumes and then tinctures, herbal compounds, tablets, herbal teas.
Everything I make is formulated with natural ingredients without any chemical additives and following the teachings of Mother Earth.
Parvafolium has earned 5 stars and is the best gift shop on Etsy.
In addition to my work as an editor, I am currently busy ordering Christmas presents. I look forward to have time to upload new products to Etsy soon.
I am happy and feel satisfied to do something for people. I believe that everyone can make a change in their life. You don’t have to wait until you feel sick and then find the remedy. It’s good to listen to yourself and take the right initiative, make positive choices. We all should learn from plants.
Plants are superior to humans. In fact they are much more intelligent and independent. First of all, the brain of plants is not located in just one point, but over their entire surface, so they do not need us or technology to survive. Therefore I consult with them and walk with them with the sun and the moon and thus find my balance.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think I have mentioned it at the beginning of the interview. Certainly open-mindedness, the infinite desire I have to learn, and professional ethics are among the qualities that I believe I possess and which are fundamental, given the results I have obtained so far. until now.
Regarding the areas of knowledge that have had the greatest impact on my journey, I can say that you never stop learning. Certainly the foundations of a culture rich in history, art and tradition, classical education and a master’s degree in literature and philosophy have been, and still are today, of great support. Furthermore, having dealt with people for years, of every race, of every culture, of every mentality, has always allowed me to see the multiple truths of existence, perhaps the essence of life itself.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Being very busy with Parvafolium and with my job as a publisher, for which I take care of work and social relationships in two such distant countries, brings a lot of stress.
I don’t have any strategy or method.
What I do is simply find a moment to unplug and fully reconnect with nature, with its times, with its slowness!
Going to the seaside and listening to the waves or taking long walks clarifies my ideas. This allows me to reorganize my thoughts, give everything the right priority and recharge.
