We were lucky to catch up with Isa Bellido recently and have shared our conversation below.
Isa, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Being a singer and maintaining a vibrant and imaginative mindset is crucial not only for lyrics but also for artwork. Once you understand this, you need to find ways to keep your creativity fresh and authentic.
There are three basic practices that I use to keep creativity alive:
First, watching different types of speeches such as TEDx, Oprah, etc., has been an invaluable source of inspiration for me. Listening and watching have a remarkable ability to ignite my imagination and stimulate fresh perspectives, enabling me to infuse my work with originality and depth.
Additionally, finding inspiration in nature through walks and moments of tranquility is also important. During these times, I can hear myself, reflect on my experiences, and find something meaningful to share. These experiences help me create music that inspires those who listen to my songs.
Last but not least, exploring other artists’ work to stay current with music trends and see how they can fit into what I do. I hold great admiration for artists like Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Joss Stone, and Jorja Smith, and I strive to assimilate these influences and mold them to align with my unique personal style.
These practices help me infuse authenticity and originality into my music, ensuring a vibrant creative spirit.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Chilean singer, songwriter, and model currently residing in Chicago, USA.
I have a deep passion for creation, and I firmly believe that music is a powerful tool that can be use in various ways and situations. With this understanding, I have set out to become a singer who can make a meaningful impact and provide in a fun way help to others through the music I create. This aspect of my journey is both thrilling and exceptionally significant to me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Vocal Technique: Mastering the art of vocal technique was crucial in my development as a singer, Songwriting: The ability to write compelling and authentic songs has been a game-changer for me
Constancy: Upholding constancy has been both a challenge and a key ingredient in my progress.
My advice to aspiring singers is to document your desires and goals by writing them down. Be specific and set deadlines for achieving them. While the path may not be exactly as you envision, having a clear vision will guide your progress. Practice gratitude for what you have already accomplished and actively manifest your goals coming to life. Finally, maintain consistency in your efforts and remember to show yourself compassion and forgiveness whenever you encounter setbacks or failures.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
The process of writing songs has played a transformative role in my personal and artistic development. It has provided a unique platform for me to liberate and express myself in ways I hadn’t experienced before. Through songwriting, I have been able to delve deep into my thoughts, emotions, and experiences, translating them into melodies and lyrics that resonate with both myself and others.
This creative journey has been instrumental in bolstering my self-confidence. Each song I write becomes a testament to my authenticity and a reflection of my inside voice. Sharing these creations with the world has taught me the power of vulnerability and has reinforced my belief in my artistic abilities
