Ivan, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience has been a part of my core since my early childhood. My parents were the proud owners of a small business, and I often help them after school and during weekends. Through their journey, I had a front-row seat to both their struggles and their well-earned victories. This experience instilled in me the invaluable lesson of perseverance, teaching me to never back down easily and to work hard to pursuing my goals.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
In 2015, I made a life-changing move from New Jersey to Dallas and decided to embark on a new career journey. With a background in the marketing industry, the countertop business was initially unfamiliar territory for me. However, my determination to learn and build a business from the ground up was unwavering. Early in 2016, I joined forces with a friend who had experience in a similar business from another state, and together, we launched a brand new venture – Granite Republic. Right from day one, our primary focus has been on delivering quality and unparalleled customer service. At Granite Republic, no kitchen project is too big or too small; we’re ready for them all! Our ultimate objective is to guide our clients in turning their dream kitchens into a beautiful reality, all while providing them with the finest service they can experience.
What I find most fulfilling in my daily work is the opportunity to harness my creativity and imagination to assist customers in designing their ideal kitchen countertops. At Granite Republic, we offer custom designs, including striking features like waterfall islands and full backsplash countertops, among many others. The projects we’ve undertaken are, in a sense, true works of art, and I’m immensely proud of what we’ve accomplished.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having spent 7 years working at a Real Estate Marketing firm, I accumulated a wealth of knowledge about homes in general. My role allowed me to visit, photograph, and measure countless kitchens and bathrooms across the New York tri-state area. This experience sharpened my eye for exceptional kitchen and bathroom design. Additionally, my work involved selling marketing services to real estate agents, which laid the foundation for a seamless transition into the realm of countertop sales. Interacting with homeowners further honed my skills, teaching me the art of offering top-notch customer service to my current clients.
For those who aspire to start a small business or follow a similar journey, I would like to offer a few pieces of advice:
Be Patient: As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Success often takes time, so patience is key.
Work Hard and Smart: Leverage the array of new technologies available to you. Working both hard and smart can accelerate your growth and success.
Online Presence: In today’s digital age, online presence is crucial. Reviews and customer feedback hold immense importance. Potential clients often research and shop online before making initial contact. Therefore, maintaining a clean and professional online presence is paramount.
