We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Iza Gotto. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Iza below.
Iza , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
In life, we go through many situations that make us doubt ourselves. Sometimes, we feel like we’re not good enough or that we don’t have it. There are also moments when we are very hard on ourselves and we can’t help from feeling anxious or believing we could have done better. I’ve always believed you can achieve excellence by being disciplined. I’ve always pushed myself to do more and more every day, as well as accepting and being proud of the results of my work. There have been times I have thought “I’m so behind”… However, just because we’re not yet living the life or the moment that we so wish for, doesn’t mean that we’re not on a good path and that we’re not learning in the process. I’ve gone through the imposter syndrome a lot of times in my life. All I can share with you is that we need to learn to be kind to ourselves and understand that everybody’s journey is different and you are in constant learning. It is normal to have moments of doubt and confusion because we are humans but we all want to succeed in life. It is important to remain positive, focused, and believe in yourselves. It is also imperative to have faith in who you are and what you’re capable of. Enjoy the process and trust that whenever you do what you love with your heart, you can and will achieve anything you can imagine.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Music is something that has always been present and part of my family. My uncle Daniel was a maestro of the “Guitarra Española”, my grandmother used to sing “baladas” around the house when I was little, and both of the parents of my grandfather from my dad’s side were Italian Opera Singers back in their day. Music has always excited me and has been part of my life since I was little. My mom used to take me to Flamenco and Ballet Classes in Barcelona. Then in Venezuela, I started to study music at a Conservatory, where I learned to play the Oboe, a woodwind instrument with a round and beautiful sound. When moving to the United States I continued my studies in places like New World School of the Arts, The Lone Star College and I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Florida Atlantic University. I’ve performed along with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Andrea Bocelli, Pia Toscano, and Matteo Bocelli. I have my compositions on music platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube. I’ve also just released a new single on December 21st called Vida Pasada, a composition that was produced and worked along with Alfredo Matheus Diez, Felipe Molinares, and Alan Matheus. I am very excited for this new year and all the next projects that are coming up! Stay tuned with my Instagram @izagotto where I post and announce important events!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
These basic skills have helped me to become better at what I do: – Be organized to be able to complete everything at the time it’s supposed to, that way you are not stressing over it last minute. I like to organize myself by writing everything on my phone on the calendar app and setting up alarms so that way I don’t forget about anything.
– Highly important to keep your area clean and organized so you have space to work and feel comfortable.
– Know and understand what it means to be professional whenever you are making connections and getting to know new people in your career environment. It will help you in the future to have more opportunities and to open many doors for you.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I believe the most impactful thing my parents have done for me is that they have always been supportive, present, and believed in me. Their focus has been for me to advance on my studies and my career ever since I was little. Always by my side, educating me, giving me advice, and caring about me.
