Meet J. Logan Austin

We recently connected with J. Logan Austin and have shared our conversation below.

J. Logan , we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is very important in all aspects of life, especially the creative side. What helps me a lot is completely unplugging from the world. I turn on do not disturb and I’ll do things that take me out of everyday thoughts. For example, I like playing video games, going on walks, meditating, listening to podcasts, and a couple of other things. The key is to find something that completely detaches you from the stuff racing through your mind. Then when you come back to reality you feel refreshed and ready to accomplish your goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Having done a couple of these interviews before, I won’t bore you with my origin story. Currently my company Crazy Ant Media and I are in the process of expanding. “Media” is in the name so that includes films, television shows, podcasts, and a couple of different things. We are looking to find other like minded individuals who love this industry and are always eager to learn. We strive for our creative work space to be like one big classroom where we can take lessons from each other.

Something new that we just started is a mental health podcast titled, Everything’s Okay. This opens the door for people to get to know us and learn how we tick. Mental health struggles have followed me and those close to me all of my life and I think these conversations need to be more common. It’s a bi-weekly podcast where we talk about our experiences surrounding a certain topic and how we deal with it on a daily basis. The goal is to let everyone know that they’re not alone and we along with our guests have been through similar situations. I’m really excited to see this podcast grow.

We are also always working on film & television projects. We have multiple projects in various stages of production. Staying busy is something I love to do and when we have so many different opportunities that present themselves on a daily basis, it becomes the best type of rollercoaster. I also love reading other peoples projects as well.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First and foremost you have to know that “chasing the dream,” does NOT happen over night. You have to be dedicated to your craft and just love the process. It’s not about the fame or money, it’s about the people and experiences you get to have around you. Another thing is to be very organized. Take advantage of tools like Google drives, empty drawers around the house, empty bags you haven’t used in six months, etc. Know where things are at so that when you need them, they’re easily accessible. Lastly, the only difference between those who make it and those who don’t is perseverance. Keep going no matter what.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents have always been very supportive of me even when we didn’t have much. Always food in our bellies, a roof over our heads, a shoulder to cry on. They never stop supporting us, even now. The most impactful thing my parents ever did for me was fill me with endless love and nonstop support. They never told me I couldn’t do it. They’ve always had my back. They’re creating a great example of what type of parent I want to be someday. I love all of my parents, my Mom Connie, my Step dad Levi , and my Dad Jimmy. Thank you for everything.
