Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jacob Logeman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jacob, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I was pretty quiet in grade school, but I found my voice when I joined the video club. I realized that my strengths in storytelling thrived through writing and video editing, more so than when I would actually speak. Once I found that passion, it forced me to work with others and develop my visual storytelling in order to earn an audience. When I start producing the high school’s weekly newscast, I discovered a sense of pride in informing the student body and ultimately, serving my community. All of that to say, the foundation of my self-esteem was built on my passion for video production, and my confidence has grown exponentially ever since.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As an event planner, my time is split between two developing brands. And by no means do their respective revenues combine to form any sort of livable income, but they’re all I have until I land my next primary job.
So, first: I inherited Tea Dance Cincinnati in July of 2022 as a monthly soirée for the LGBTQ+ community to socialize with friends and allies. My predecessor did most of the leg work in developing a following on social media, but I was tasked with maintaining its reputation when I took over. I did so by rebranding, and securing new venues to host us each month. It has been an incredible networking endeavor, and a rewarding means to serve my community in a part of the country where you wouldn’t expect such coordination.
Separately, I founded One Night Stans, which hosts periodic take-over themed club nights for those who stan the queens of pop music. It began with a Taylor Swift release party in November 2021, and continues to evolve as I expand the brand with new events and different themes.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In middle school, one class project asked me to identify a problem in my life and then invent something to solve that problem. I’ve carried that method of critical thinking into adulthood, and it has made me into the entrepreneur I am today. But if you have an idea, you have to be ambitious with it. When I realized I wanted to host that very first Taylor Swift release party in 2021, I cold-contacted every bar in the area. That ambition paid off when one venue agreed to host my event, eventually leading to an entire network of connections. Growing those connections, along with my critical thinking and ambition, has gotten me to where I am today.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I constantly feel overwhelmed, and I’ve learned just to step away. It’s incredibly difficult, especially when all I really want to accomplish is the task at hand. But I’ve set timers throughout the day to force me away from my computer and into the kitchen for a snack or outside for a walk. These moments away help me to gather my thoughts, re-asses what needs to be accomplished first, and return to my work with a clear mind.
