Meet Jaime Cope

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaime Cope. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jaime, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Mostly by doing mirror work, having an open dialogue with myself. Practicing mindfulness and self awareness when it comes to the thoughts that live in my mind. I try to choose them carefully and selectively. I just finally understand that not every thought is necessarily my own & that I am creating new belief systems in every moment and get to choose which thoughts I want to align myself with.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Since I was young, I have always been a creative. I was an only child for most of my life and spent a lot of time alone making art to express myself and self soothe.

I mainly write, record, and perform music. I also love to create visual art as well, drawing and painting is very cathartic for me.

I moved to Los Angeles from the Bay Area 3.5 years ago and have learned so much about myself, being in this city.

I’m planning on releasing my next single within the next 2 months, called ‘SEE THROUGH’. I’m very excited and feel like this song really captures my soul, my essence.

I’m just excited to share more of myself with the world and my music. For a long time( I didn’t feel entirely ready to do so, and struggled a lot with being perceived but now I’m just at a point where I want to seize the moment. Our individual creativity is so sacred and something to be celebrated.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, Perspective & Objectivity.

You wont become the artist you dream of without granting yourself patience to become the person you are meant to fully embody.

You have to have perspective that reaches further than what you can physically see. You must have a belief in the unknown and unseen. You must *know* deeply in your heart that everything is aligning and that you are exactly where you’re meant to be right now. There are things you have yet to learn that will make things click & the puzzle pieces will come together, it just takes time.

Objectivity helped me with writing and recording music. It gave me the ability to refine myself by listening back with a very honest ear and seeing what I could do better, or reworking the lyrics/mix until it’s what I reaaaally want. Its a healthy competition with myself – I just love the game.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Most times, I bring myself back to the present moment with breathing exercises. It’s something you can do anywhere, no matter where you are/what you’re doing. I do box breathing with 4 or 8 seconds. It almost always brings me back to a state of equilibrium.

If I feel extremely overstimulated, I make sure I’m always carrying a pair of noise cancelling headphones/sunglasses because light and sound can be a lot, sometimes. Paired with the breathing, I am able to return to myself. It gives me a sense of control, especially when I’m going out somewhere in public because I’m still able to just have my own individual experience.

It’s just really important to prioritize your needs and truly do what makes you happy at every turn. Even if you initially feel judged for putting yourself first, breaking social norms makes you realize that most people are too concerned with their own lives to notice or judge you for what you’re doing. Basically just do whatever you want, whenever you want… as long as you’re not hurting anybody. You’ll always be with yourself so you might as well build a trustworthy space (within yourself) that you feel safe in.
