We recently connected with Jake Teplitzky and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
For me, resilience goes hand and hand with experience. A person cannot learn or cultivate resilience without having experiences that help shape one’s ability to be resilient. Personally, I believe that to be resilient is to be able to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and continue to pursue your own personal journey.
It is impossible to be resilient without effort in your pursuit of success. Resilience is not a byproduct of failure, it is a byproduct of relentless effort. To be truly resilient, you must have an unextinguishable passion in your pursuits and understand that tomorrow is a new day regardless of what happens today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
TMG is about providing collegiate student athletes with the ability to not only capitalize on their name, image, and likeness, but also provide them with tools and resources necessary to develop their personal and professional lives following the completion of their athletic career.
TMG was created out of need. Personally, I never considered working in the sport industry until I was in college. It was during my time at the University of Miami, that I realized how challenging the student athlete lived experience can be. Many of my close friends at the time were student athletes playing their respective sports. It is challenging to be a student and an athlete as well as manage extra curricular activities, personal relationships, and social relationships during such a meaningful and impactful time in a young person’s life.
TMG is a resource for student athletes to not only pursue financial opportunities but also provide them with the opportunity to cultivate their professional skills.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, I leaned into who I am. I am a people person who understands that everyone has their own challenges and experiences.
I was very fortunate to grow up in a professional family that taught me financial literacy, relationship cultivation, and personal development as well as what it means to be someone who you are proud of. Without having my parents model what it means to be true to yourself, I am not sure if I would have been brave enough to “go-for-it”.
My advice for anyone who is looking to chase their dream is go for it. You never want to ask yourself, what if. What if I had gone for it, what if I decided to stick with it, what if I believed in myself? If you believe in yourself, you owe it to yourself to go for it.
There will be set backs, there will be challenges, but the best advice I can give to those starting out would be, be resilient, learn from your experiences, and lean into who you are.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
TMG is always looking to collaborate with brands and sponsors who are interested in working with student athletes in marketing campaigns.
When it comes to partnerships and collaborations, TMG’s main focus is working with sponsors and brands who are interested in developing a sustainable relationship for both current and future clients.
Creating mutually beneficial relationships goes beyond marketing campaigns, it’s cultivation for a brands future.
