Meet Jalisa Keyes

We were lucky to catch up with Jalisa Keyes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalisa, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Ooo, self care is truly honoring myself thoroughly from the time I awake to bedtime. Self care has become a daily practice for me, in fact, it is my life day to day. It is less about outer appearance appeal and materialistic pursuits. For me, it is more about appealing to my soul, its desires, happiness, and comfort. It is the ebb and flow I maintain. It is the heart of gratitude for the ability to have and do when I want.

I have done an amazing job at curating my daily life and carving out my hours of the day to exist and show up in the world. I am an early morning person. My awakening time are the quietest and earliest hours of the day for prayer and silence followed up by an hour of gym time. This has become ritualistic for me. It sets the tone for my spirit and all else flows to and from it.

By 5 am, on the days I am scheduled to work, I am at work working while settling into a shuffle of music, an audible book, or a TV show. I am grateful I able to enjoy peace, tranquility, and the comfort of home at work. There is nothing to complain about work!

Having a consistent, healthy work-life balance is self care and extremely essential for my wellbeing! It impacts my joy and commitment to myself as well as contributes to me thriving and living a fulfilling life. I fulfill my life with abundance through my love, creativity, reading, DJing, traveling, giving back, cooking, and so many other heartily and lively ways! This enriches my soul and highest good allowing me to be at ease and free to embrace the presences in my life, express my profoundness, and share my blessings with others.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Professionally, I am a pharmacist. I currently work remotely from a large micro fulfillment center for Centralized Services. Centralized Services is a department that assist in streamlining retail prescription dispensing for thousands of stores across the United States. I serve as a clinical and data review pharmacist. This was a dream position for me as a pharmacist transitioning from retail pharmacy!

This role is unique in that I get to focus solely on accurately dispensing prescriptions across numerous states for my patients remotely. The distractions and interruptions of constant phone ringing, patient counseling and questions, administering vaccines, and all the other demands that pharmacists encounter day to day in retail pharmacy has been eliminated in Centralized Services. It is so refreshing to, now, be able to work in peace, peacefully.

Furthermore, I am able to enrich my time at work by listening to audible books, music, etc. As thoughts and ideas surface my mind from the books and music, I am able to make a note and/or compose a playlist at work to later reflect, meditate, and create at home. This is relishing for my creativity as an individual and a DJ. It also creates a healthy work, passion, and life balance for me.

Life transitions this year has kept me in constant motion. Currently, I am working on launching my official website for my business, Key Access, LLC, which will provide clients direct access to book me. The website will highlight my background, past gigs, availability, services, and featured music.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me, besides learning how to take it a minute, an hour, or a day at a time, I’d have to say being true to yourself, enforcing boundaries, and having the ability to pivot have been most impactful to my life. In order to be true to yourself, you have to know who you are at your core and honor that. This can be difficult and take time as it requires unpacking and processing your past selves as well as who you are currently along with removing others’ projections of who you are or should be while unlearning things you once knew as a way of life or being.

Whether it is personal or business, all areas of our life benefit from boundaries especially relationships, and the most important relationship is the relationship with self! Everything else stems from that relationship. Boundaries are the limits and protection you place around your time, emotional, physical, and mental wellbeing. They serve as borders to create and allow space for you to be self aware, rooted, healthy, and content with yourself. So having and enforcing boundaries is to honor and be true to yourself by expressing your authenticity and defining who you are, what you value, believe, and love in life!

Sometimes life does throw us a curve ball. Moreover, we sometimes experience resistance and desire change in our lives. However, having the ability to pivot helps to ensure sustainability through life’s curves and transitions. Pivoting can be scary and uneasy yet rewarding and life changing as it offer opportunities for redirection, new beginnings, and character development. I know wholeheartedly I would not be where I am today had I not decided to pivot in 2021.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Outside of having private gigs, yes, I am always open to collaborating with leaders, artists, brands, and businesses. I have ideas circulating in my mind on how to collaborate with up and coming non mainstream artists that I love!

Recently, Zyah Belle and I exchanged agreements on instagram that she needs to come to Dallas for a show. I told her I would see what I can do to make this happen. So, as of now, I am brainstorming on how to make it happen while expanding to include other artists, DJs, etc.

I love art and fashion and want to collaborate with more artists, stylists, and upcoming fashion designers to provide music for art and fashion shows.

Lastly, I’d love to collaborate with heavy hitters such as pharmaceutical companies at conferences, a Roc nation brunch, and nonprofit organizations to give back to communities..just to name a few. Alongside these collaborations, I want to be a music consultant for TV shows and movies to provide the background and/or soundtrack music to the storylines while showcasing and previewing non mainstream artists.

Anyone who would like to collaborate with me can reach me on my instagram @dr.jkeyesdj, bookings@getkeyaccess.com, or on my website for Key Access, LLC. My goal is to launch website by early September!
