V Kay’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

V Kay shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi V, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My day usually starts at around 9 am (I am not a morning person and like to sleep in). It takes me a while to actually wake up and get ready to work on things. I usually start writing or editing a blog post. Around 12 pm, I would spend a few hours looking at emails, making and scheduling pins for Pinterest, posting things on social media, writing newsletters, etc. In the late afternoon, I try to work on listing new products on my Etsy shops. I try to finish work by 6 pm or 7 pm. Then I will exercise, walk my dog, make and eat supper. In the evening, I like to read a book or practise my Spanish on Duolingo. I usually go to bed at around 12-12.30.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m V, the traveller and storyteller behind Travel Addicted Unicorn. I started this blog because I’m endlessly curious about the world and wanted a space to share my adventures as well as my travel tips and tricks. The Travel Addicted Unicorn blog focuses mostly on millennial women travellers who may be new to travelling. Also, I create a lot of travel-related content on IG and TikTok and work with tourism boards, hotels and brands. Beyond the blog and social media, I’m also building TAU Designs, my Etsy shop for travel bloggers and travellers, where I create media kits, wall art, and digital tools to help others share their journeys. I have recently opened another Etsy shop where I am creating POD products for different occasions (not travel-related).

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The person who has taught me the most about blogging is Laura Peters, who is my blogging coach and has helped me immensely throughout my blogging journey.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Ooo man! There have been sooo many times! It is not as easy as everyone thinks, and it is very hard to make money from it. Adding all of the Google algorithm changes and AI taking over, it is a hard grind all the time. However, this is my dream life, and even though there are many setbacks, I always push forward.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Creating a thriving and successful business that can withstand whatever gets thrown at it. Also, creating a community of like-minded people who love to travel and tell their own story.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying about other people’s expectations and opinions and just live my life to the fullest.
