We were lucky to catch up with Janell Beacham recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Janell, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
Understanding who you are has a lot to do with the power you hold when being the only one in the room that looks like you. When you know that your calling will not look like the person next to you calling, then you walk in rooms with confidence knowing no one can take away what you have achieved, learned, experienced, or where you are going next. My faith and relationship with God is at the center of my life and it has shaped me to understand that He is my guide and no matter what room I walk in, I know He is the driving force to all of my abilities and the success I have obtained and it will always be unique from those that are in the same room as me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a certified personal trainer as well as a women’s fitness wear business owner. I received my MBA with a focus in entrepreneurship as well as master degree certificates in marketing, finance, and accounting. To be afforded the opportunity to grow my business knowledge by obtaining additional education has fueled my passion even more for what I already do.
Growing up I was always apart of competitive sports, moving on in my adult years playing basketball at a collegiate level, it was one of the catalyst for how I got to where I am now. It was ingrained in me as a child through sports to have grit, passion, discipline, determination, consistency, and all the other terms that describe a competitive athlete. Those traits never left my side as I transitioned out of my sports career. Coupled with sports, my parents showed me what hard work looks like in our day-to-day life. They showed up for me no matter what I was doing, supported ideas, rather big or small and most importantly, emphasized the importance my relationship with God would be as I continued to grow up and come against obstacles that life will present. To this day, the role they play in my life, is a reflection of the woman I am today.
The joy that I have for being a personal trainer and running my fitness wear brand is an excitement that continues to grow everyday. What is so special about what I do is that I get to empower, educate and transform the lives of others through fitness. For people to allow me to be apart of their life journey is such an honor to me because they didn’t have to choose me, and I am always privileged to step foot into someone’s life in the manner I do to help them achieve goals- not only physically, but mentally as well. When I see women feeling confident in the brand I have created specifically for us, the fire within me continues to grow in order to blossom my brand into more than just a name, more than just apparel, but a place for women to feel empowered, bold, confident, beautiful, strong, passionate, and exactly who they are created to be from the inside out-outside in.
I am excited to expand my fitness wear brand by adding the curves collection for all shapes and sizes. Also, our fall season line will be dropping very very soon. Stay on the look out for that! Apart of these new updates, we will be partnering with women’s organizations all over and a portion of all purchases will be donated to these organizations to support women’s growth and empowerment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A few things that were most impactful and helpful on my journey were 1. Discipline 2. Consistency 3.Adaptability/uncomfortability.
These all played a role in my journey but, uncomfortability was a huge one for me because there were days that felt extremely uncomfortable. To the point where I was doubting if this was even the right thing for me to do at all. But in those moments you find out who you really are. You go beyond your comfort levels so you can reveal the person you are called to be.
To best develop and/or improve on these my advice is to come face to face with each of them. Truly look at yourself in the mirror and decide who do you want to be. Do you want to be a warrior? A go getter? A non quitter? If the answer is yes, then you put the work in by doing the inner work, self talk, prayer, changing bad habits, creating small day to day habits that will lead you to build bigger and better habits that will be life changing for your present and future self.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
There has been SO many people that have helped me get to where I am now. From my family, coaches, friends, business partners, managers, random people I’ve met by networking- it literally has been so amazing the people God has placed in my path to share their stories with me in order for me to gain prospective and for them to pour into me all they have learned, so I can take it and grow all the areas of my life. It has been so many gems I have taken from each of these people and I am excited to continue to evolve on all levels.
