Meet Janmetra Waddell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janmetra Waddell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Janmetra, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem- truly out of necessity. As a survivor of domestic violence my confidence was completely destroyed ! I was depressed, combined with post-partum depression it was tough!

I found a quote in a book that said “Don’t let what you cannot do. Interfere with what you can do” John Wooden. That quote changed my life and from that moment – I kept quotes and statements everywhere! I had them posted in the bathroom, my office, my wallet. They were the first things I saw when I opened my eyes in the morning and the last thing I read as I was going to sleep at night.

I truly borrowed my confidence and self- esteem from others- and I would repeat them to myself in the mirror, in the car, I would whisper it to myself in the bathroom and then one day I looked up and I was not the same person.

I now share the quotes I used and my story to help others gain confidence in themselves and tools they can use when that are having a rough day or perhaps do not believe just yet.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Self awareness 2. Determination
3. Tenacity

For those who are early in their journey (no matter what the journey is), know that the investment that you are making in yourself is priceless. We have to focus on the outcome we desire not the cost of the investment and when we have a shift in our mindset -true growth can begin.

This is your journey, and it is important to choose wisely those who will walk with you during the midnight hours and the early mornings.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Untethered Soul

I was reading a chapter in the Austin TX airport and that one paragraph changed my life and I was instantly over my fear of flying.

It said -that we often inherit our fears and we never question where we received them and why. It made think about why was I afraid of flying? I was only afraid because my mother was afraid, and she was afraid because her mother was afraid! Here I am 3 generations later afraid of flying without every asking why!

After I read that- I put the book down- walked over to Chick-fil-a ordered a chicken salad sandwich with a lemonade- and boarded the plan and went to sleep !
