We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jarrett Ransom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jarrett, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My parents deserve credit for this. Both my mom and dad were entrepreneurs – my dad a landscape architect and my mom an artist, and gift shop owner.
Being raised by entrepreneurs definitely showed me the importance of work ethic, resilience, and grit!
In fact, my parents were not fond of me starting my own business. Which of course, made me want to start my own business even more!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I absolutely love the work that I get to do. Every single day I am reminded of the humanity that still exists in our communities.
As the Nonprofit Nerd®, I get to be of service to nonprofits across the nation – from start ups to multimillion dollar organizations. Organizations changing the landscape of homelessness, providing recreational activities to individuals with disabilities, mindfulness education to our underserved schools, trauma-informed care, and so much more.
In 2022, clients under my leadership and guidance raised a total of $7.5 million.
Through a variety of service lines I offer, such as executive coaching, interim executive leadership, strategic planning, and public speaking services, I am able to help people in their communities and with some of their largest community problems.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
As I previously gave a nod to my parents, I recognize the importance of work ethic, resilience, and grit as three qualities that were impactful to me on my career (and life) journey.
The advice I would like to share with others is to lean into yourself, your intuition, and your support systems. Find the people or groups of people that are on a similar path, or have been where you aspire to be and learn from what they are willing to share with you.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
A few years ago I had a team of consultants that worked with me, under my company name. Today, I am proudly a solo-preneur that strategically collaborates with other leading consultants in the nonprofit space as well as industry leadership teams to continue to provide innovation to the spaces and places we have the ability to serve.
As a prideful disruptor, I am not looking to continue the same ole’ same ole’ just because that is what we have done for years past. I am committed to growth and innovation – changing with the times is critical and nonprofits, like other businesses, need to stay current on these trends and technological advances as well.
The best way to connect with me to discuss a possible partnership or collaboration is to send me an email at [email protected]
