We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jasmin Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmin , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My faith. I have no reason to not trust my life or believe that what’s for me isn’t coming. I know God got me! His light shines on every aspect of my being, it’s divine. My life is divine. This is the mentality and spirit that keeps me going.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, I’m a small business owner and creator based in Memphis, TN. My biggest priority at the moment is my bakery Lot’s Of Sugar. Not only are we celebrating 1 year of service, but we’re also in the process of adding custom cakes to our menu! Running Lot’s Of Sugar has been a blessing and incredibly inspiring. I’m patient but kinda on the edge of my seat for what’s next. In the meantime it’s all gratitude for the love and creativity surrounding me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The 3 I’d give have to do with perspective and approach. I call it M.A.P ;mindfulness, authenticity, and patience. Ask yourself who am I and what do I genuinely want? How can I get closer to that without overly compromising myself? What do I need to do to build contentment until I get there? The journey sucks if you don’t find a way to understand it. These 3 keep me grounded. It’s so easy to get clouded by failure, lack of resources, dry spells etc. It’s not the end. Tailor your vision, check your M.A.P and keep going.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Aside from God, I couldn’t list one person. This is going to be very Memphis of me…Thank you Mama. Thank you Dad. Thank you Jesse. Thank you Khalil my son-bun. Thank you Alve. Thank you Kiyla. Thank you to both my grandmother’s that are no longer with us. Thank you to all my cousins, uncles, aunties. Literally everyone in my life has been impactful rather they know it or not. Till this day I’ve never seen any of them give up and thats huge. As long as you keep going skills can be added, knowledge can be added you subtract when you give up!
