Meet Jasmine McNair

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine McNair . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.

Jasmine , we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
When a lot people think of self care they may mention getting their nails done or taking a long hot bath with candles burning, and all though those are forms of self care, mental self care is the most important. I have learned in my life of being an entrepreneur, a wife, a mom, a woman of color, a creator, and a long list of other titles, that life is forever moving. During all that movement time slips away and we start to develop routines. In those routines we usually prioritize on what we believe is most important (at the time) and often lose focus on what should truly be of importance. Which is ourselves . How you feel and care about yourself is a reflection on how you treat and care for others. Mentally taking the time to get out of my own head about what needs to be done, what I haven’t done, and what I should be doing is how I do self care. I learned I was my worst critic and that my own doubt and thoughts were my biggest downfall. Once I took the time to take care of me I began to see a change in every aspect of my life. I decided to change my mind. A positive mindset and outlook on not just my future but my present, has made my life easier.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, My name is Jasmine McNair and I am the owner and head cleaner for Royalty Cleaning LLC. I started my business in 2017 with just a few loyal clients and since then Royalty Cleaning has blossomed into a successful cleaning business servicing the metro Atlanta area.
I also am the the owner and operator of Sage Qween all things natural. Since 2020 I sell all natural products like sage, feathers, and incense through my Etsy store.
I always knew that I wanted to work for myself but I also wanted it to be doing something(s) I love to do.
I’ve been cleaning since I was an adolescent and it has always been something I loved to do.
I started burning sage (smudging) to help with anxiety and to meditate. The misconception of burning sage is what made me so intrigued about it and I needed to spread the knowledge on how all things natural like burning sage can help all of us.

In the future I plan to incorporate my cleaning and sage as one. I specialize in a lot of move in and move out cleanings. Sage is often burned in spaces where someone has moved out to cleanse the space of any negative energy left behind.
Also research shows that burning sage (smudging) in a room for a hour reduced airborne bacteria by 94%.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Some skills are not taught but naturally given to you. The skills I possess naturally are the need to finish any task given to me, the desire to see the outcome, and the ability to work smarter not harder. There were times I was my worse critic. Even after a client praised me and told me I did a wonderful job, I would be in my own head still doubting myself. The best advice I can give to anyone pursuing their dreams, is too focus on all the good never the bad. Remind yourself you’re doing the best you can and celebrate even the smallest accomplishments. Once you build this confidence, even when problems occur, you will have the ability and motivation to face them instead of letting them control you.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
The feeling of being overwhelmed is going to come more than once on your journey. Successful business keeps you busy. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I simply take a break. This can be for 15 minutes, an hour, or even a day. I have learned to handle my schedule with care so I still have time to take care of myself and family. Not being available is ok. Saying no is ok. Take time to rest and reset so this feeling of being overwhelmed doesn’t discourage you from getting business done.
