We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Rene recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose when I took a Fashion design class in high school. The class allowed me to express myself in ways I never did before. I was always artistic and i used to hand-sew things and cut up and write on my clothes because I didn’t know how to formally sew on an actual sewing machine. Once I took a fashion design class, I was able to grasp some of the art of garment construction and a slight idea of fashion illustration with given templates. I was excited about this class because it allowed me to bringing my designs to life. I was one of the top students in my class and that class was instrumental in my decision to go to school for fashion design. Once, I graduated from high school, I continued my education to Kent State University’s fashion, design and merchandising program.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back ,the qualities or skills that were most impactful to my journey, would be to have obtained a bachelors degree in the field of my craft, and actually working in that field, and putting my degree to work. The second would be gaining industry experience while opening my business and figuring it out on my own. Lastly is maintaining a strong moral compass and a work ethic that allows me to keep going, even when business got hard, or I had to pivot due to life events. The best advice I can give to people that are early in their journey is to educate yourself, look up anything and everything there is to know about the field you want to go into. Never stop learning ,never take criticism to heart , believe in yourself, don’t deny yourself before you even try. The doubt will come, the fear will come. Sometimes lack will come, but it’s up to you, if you decide if you’re going to give into those things or over come it.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle I am currently facing is learning to maintain my business in an unpredictable society. The economy has made prices rise and I consider my business to be a luxury brand that caters to a niche market. Often times it’s harder to keep steady clientele when the economy is so volatile. People aren’t getting things made for special occasions as often because they are allocating finds towards necessities over wants. People aren’t celebrating when they are trying to afford the cost of living. I know I will stay afloat as I was able to get through during the pandemic unscathed but it doesn’t make it any less stressful. I do my best to overcome knowing that God put me in this position and he won’t just leave me here alone. I see stability and growth in the future for my business.
