Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jasmine Tilman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jasmine, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Thank you for asking such an insightful question. Throughout my journey, I have encountered moments of frustration, stemming from my diligent efforts and subsequent setbacks. Often, we find ourselves relentlessly pursuing predetermined paths, neglecting the true essence of embracing and cherishing our destinies. I, too, have fallen victim to this mindset, engaging in over 20 simultaneous activities, desperately hoping that one would lead to success. It was only after picking myself up for the umpteenth time that I recognized the importance of prioritization and honing my focus on a single objective. I came to understand that I am deserving of achieving the goals I have set for myself, and I have since endeavored to conquer them with unwavering determination.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
It has been an extensive journey of self-discovery for me, as I have invested considerable time and effort into understanding my true essence. My passion lies in training and assisting women in overcoming doubt and the various obstacles that hinder them from embracing their desired mindsets. I find great fulfillment in this pursuit because I empathize with the challenges one faces when confronted with the need for personal transformation and the subsequent steps required to achieve it.
To support my mission, I have developed a women empowerment journal called “Get a Grip, Will Ya? You Matter,” which serves as a foundation for an upcoming course designed to empower women, build their confidence, and help them find their voices in the world. Additionally, I take immense pride in being a three-time bestselling author, having had the privilege of collaborating with prominent figures in the industry such as Telishia Berry, Dr. Jaqueline Mohair, Krystal Henry, Anthony Muiruri, Jonas Saul, Julie Sursok, and others. These collaborations have provided me with valuable experiences and insights, igniting my passion to become a writing coach. Through my own self-taught journey in writing and crafting novels, I have cultivated the skills necessary to guide and mentor aspiring writers. With becoming a new member of FORBES BLK community I pledge to do right by my community by any means necessary.
This year, I am thrilled to announce the release of my official urban fiction novel, “DEVINE,” which will be available across various platforms. The ability to write and publish my own books has served as a catalyst for establishing my enterprise, Infinitely Authentic Enterprise, which will officially launch this year. This enterprise will encompass all the services I offer based on my extensive career and experiences, creating a platform where individuals can access my expertise and benefit from my teachings.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Throughout my life, I have encountered a few challenges that have significantly shaped my journey. First, I underwent a transformative experience when I inserted myself in the streets, altering my identity and adopting a new persona. With my mother working to provide a stable home, she often worked long hours, leaving me feeling isolated and compelled to navigate life on my own. This sense of solitude, coupled with the absence of positive male influences that did their own thing, gave me deep-seated feelings of mistrust, doubt, and fear. As fans of the “Power” series can see, the streets can lead you down a treacherous path, and unfortunately, I found myself living that reality. However, this challenging phase also instilled in me a sense of urgency, the ability to read people, and a deeper understanding of self.
In an attempt to fit into a world where I didn’t belong, I resorted to using controlled substances as a means to blend in. It was only when I recognized this destructive pattern that I became aware of how it was detracting me from my authentic self. Consequently, I learned a valuable lesson and now offer guidance to others: I advise others to recognize you are not lost; rather, it is essential to reclaim the person you were before the world told you who you were supposed to be, molding your perception of self. By paying attention to your true essence, you can discover your genuine identity and chart a meaningful path forward.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My family and friends are the most impactful supportive people to help me conquer my dreams and goals. My mother is very supportive in the financial field when she can versus my father who is more optimistic in me conquering my dreams and goals. Teaching me to never give up no matter what obstacles comes my way. My sister is a huge impact on my decision making even though I may take her truth hard whenever I use her advice I see different results that helps me to do what I need to do to make it to that next level. My editor is one of the most impactful on my entire career because although I taught myself how to write my own books she has taught me a lot more about it. From scratch she took a chance on me and edited/ some ghost writing on all of my digital products. S/O to Zambia Geiger. Last my best friends, are amazing I have three who have been around from 5 to 11 years. They are the most supportive when I feel I have nowhere else to turn. Helping me refocus even when I lose myself in my work, self, or fear.
