Meet Jason Brown

We were lucky to catch up with Jason Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jason, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think I get my resilience from a few different channels. First, it’s my love of my family and wanting to make sure I can do everything I can for them. I always put family first and always will. Then I think the other spot is early on in my life/career, there was constant rejection from other jobs to people saying, “You’re not good enough,” and wanting to prove them wrong.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I founded PublicCity PR in 2008, so companies could have an efficient, affordable, reliable and seasoned professional solution driving their public relations and publicity needs.

My mission was always to quickly and effectively garner publicity and raise the visibility of clients through the development and execution of strategic media and community relations programs and initiatives, always through a common sense lens.

Since it’s inception nearly 15 years ago, I’ve always enjoyed doing what i do and doing it for my own company. My life truly changed and was able to take control back of it. I wish that for everyone who is brave enough to take the entrepreneurial journey. I often say, much of the tasks I have on a daily basis, aren’t work.

There’s so much to say, but if want to learn more than what’s above, I’d say best place to find that info is www.PublicCityPR.net

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
So those three things would be

1) Having common sense. I can’t tell you how many times I use those two words on a daily/weekly basis. It is the core of what I do and always fall back on those two words when making any personal or professional decisions. I wish more people used it, as it would truly make the world a better place.

2) Stick to what you know. I always come across people that say they do everything under the sun. PR, Marketing, Social Media, Digital Advertising, Search Engine Optimization, Graphic Design and on and on….I think having one or two core disciplines will set you up for success. And what you don’t know, find experts in those areas to partner with. You’re life will be easier.

3) Don’t let the money determine your course of action. Can’t tell you how many times I watch people make the wrong decisions or take on the wrong client, just because they are willing to pay you. I have parted ways with a few of our top paying clients because they weren’t listening to our strategy or they weren’t courteous to us, etc. I’m not a believer in “Money Talks” if you know it’ a determent to your health/business.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for other like-minded businesses to partner with since we consider ourselves, media and community relations specialists. And when we receive opportunities to work with companies outside of those two specialties, we look for partners to help support their efforts versus letting them know, “we can’t do what you are asking for”.

If anyone would like to partner with us, please feel free to email me at JBrown@PublicCityPR.net
