Meet Jason Kritzberg

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jason Kritzberg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic stems down from growing up in an entrepreneurial family. My parents have always been entrepreneurs, starting with my father who grew up working in his father’s deli in Chicago. From growing up in those surroundings and seeing how working hard on your own pays off, it gave my father the drive to start many companies, including a music business, yacht chartering company, earthquake kit company, and his current business (which is actually the longest running business, which he started at age 18) that him and my mother still operate today, AAA Chimney Sweep & Fire Protection Company.

Seeing how hard working and dedicated my parents have been running multiple successful businesses gave me the drive to start my own (and their encouragement and guidance has truly been a huge help). And so at the start of the Covid Pandemic, when times were truly unknown, JKreative Media Team, Intl. LLC, was born! Almost 4 years later (wow, can you believe it’s been that long since the pandemic), we are thriving as a business with multiple employees and raving, ecstatic clients!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Being in the industry since 2017, I have gained a strong background and knowledge as to what it takes to make a stunning, unique, and effective end product for each client I collaborate with. My team has won multiple awards for our work and have been featured in many notable press features.
I studied at California State University, Northridge and graduated Cum Laude with my BA in Television Production. After college, I became a professional cinematographer, post-production editor, published writer, editing course developer, and digital marketing specialist. The JKreative team ranges from professional videographers, photographers, editors, and social media marketers.

Our work ranges from cinematography, editing, and digital marketing. Our expertise in cinematography, coupled with social media marketing, allows us to offer multiple services unlike other creative companies.

In 2024, we are looking forward to working with even more business owners, celebrities, special events, and creatives alike pushing the boundaries for creative expression and promotion. We look forward to what the future will bring and the businesses we will collaborate with; however, one things for certain – we will be your creative partners every step of the way!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In terms of this industry (and specifically freelance videography and editing), it is important to know your craft and how everything operates. Yes, it is important to go to college; but, what is more important, is truly figuring out how all the technology, camera equipment, audio equipment, lighting setups, etc. actually work! A lot of this isn’t taught in college (even in film school), so it is up to you to learn on your own, if you have the drive, that is!

If I had to break it out in the most important skills you will need to become a successful freelance videographer, editor, and business owner – it goes as follows:

1. Learn how to be a business man. This is a hard task for anyone to do. As a business owner, you are accounts payable, sales, customer service, CEO, boss, + whatever your craft is (in this case, videographer and editor). Until you start getting uber successful, you are doing this all on your own and need to learn every aspect of it.

2. Learn how to operate a camera. This is crucially important if you are becoming a videographer. You can’t be a videographer without knowing how to operate a camera.

3. Learn how to edit. Take courses, go to community college, or YouTube University and learn how to edit. I recommend editing on Premiere Pro as it is industry standard. If you don’t want to edit, find a talented editor to delegate your footage off to. This is also great to start establishing a team of professionals and growing your business even more!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal client to work with is someone who is invested in the process just as much as we are! We try to make our approach as simple as possible with our clients. We capture each aspect about your business or special event closely and artistically, creating an authentic portrayal of what your customers can expect or how the event happened! We don’t want to turn your business or event into a movie set. Instead, we will meticulously plan our time in a delicate way that harbors a joyful and productive experience, not overwhelming chaos. With our vision, we will capture the beauty of your business or event.

While we are doing all of this, we are hoping you are also enjoying the process with us, whether that be giving us your creative input, providing your ideas, and being on set and seeing the magic happen – we welcome all of this and it makes our time working with you even more fun!
