We were lucky to catch up with Jazmine Valencia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jazmine , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my desire to always see things through and do the right thing. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world and see many cultures and one thing that has been universal is that the people who are resilient always persevere!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of JV Agency, a marketing agency for the music industry. With artist-focused marketing and a culture-building savvy approach, we implement key branding strategies and sponsorship campaigns while culling from a strong industry network.
Innovating continuously in a relentless, changing digital landscape, I have handled over 2000-plus album launches, guiding and advancing the careers of an eclectic roster of top-selling artists, including The Killers, Fall Out Boy, Avicii, Max Frost, American Authors, and Shawn Mendes, among many others.
At JV Agency, we handle every aspect of marketing for a single, album, or video release for all levels of musicians and genres, we pride ourselves on being connectors and culture creators. “Our mission is to bridge cultural and geographic divides between makers and users,” We help grow careers for some of the most talented musicians today using an artist-focused marketing approach to growth.
I also love to mentor young women in the music industry and help pave the wave for future leaders!
We have a lot of exciting projects coming out this year and can’t wait for everyone to hear them!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first thing that I learned early on in my career is that Marketing starts at home! This is something one of my mentors always said and it really stuck with me, if you and your friends aren’t talking about you and promoting your product (whether that’s music, clothes, or a movie) why are strangers going to?
Second has been always learning about my industry, working in digital it’s changing literally by the hour, so always keeping an open mind and learning about your field, and continuing to grow your skills has been key, as I like to say “Never Lose Curiosity”
Third, having an open mind while being realistic. I come across a lot of people that aren’t willing to experiment or are not realistic about their circumstances and that becomes an obstacle to their success. I have found that the more honest with yourself and the more open-minded to try new things, the more doors open for you.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m always looking for creative and innovative people to collaborate with, anyone from musicians, artists, photographers, influencers, and really anyone that is looking to elevate themselves and grow in their field!
Feel free to reach out! I’d love to connect with you 🙂
