Meet Jeddie Carnes

We were lucky to catch up with Jeddie Carnes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeddie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I was thirty-five, I discovered my purpose. I dated a guy who physically abused me for two years. During our relationship, I had to learn how to cover up bruises on my face and body several times to look presentable at work, or just to the public eye. I remember going to the Mac counter buying makeup products and that’s when I began to teach myself on how to enhance my face. I read books by Rae Morris, Makeup is Art, and Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin. I studied and watched videos everyday the more I practiced the better I got at makeup. In 2015, I birthed my business as a Makeup Artist “Glam By Jeddie” and at that moment my purpose was alive. I was hired to do weddings, Glam makeup, studio make-up, special effects, and several photo shoots. In the precipice of Covid in 2019, my career reached a new height and God gave me a vision to create my very own cosmetic line called GLAAM Cosmetics. My cosmetic line is designed to help everyday women on the go look GLAAM at a fraction of the price. In February 2023, I launched my very first production of eyeshadow palettes called “Gorgeous Nudes”. I am thankful for my past relationship and journey because it has led me to my Ministry.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Makeup is my Ministry, I’m a twelve-year self -taught Makeup Artist and owner of “GLAM By Jeddie” located in Birmingham, Al, and CEO of GLAAM Cosmetics, LLC online. What I find exciting about my House hold brand business is creating looks, connecting with people, ministering to their souls, and enhancing women’s natural beauty. Recently, I launched my very first cosmetic line where I have developed products that cater to everyday women on the move, who desire a High Glaam look at a fraction of the price. I have released my first set of eyeshadow palettes called “Gorgeous Nudes” and in June of 2023, I will release liquid lipsticks, lip liner, lip gloss, and Birthday Edition eyeshadow palettes!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited about the growth of both cohorts GLAAM Cosmetics and GLAAM by Jeddie and I look forward to servicing my local community, charities, state, and nationwide in the beauty industry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful qualities, skills, and knowledge that I have learned and still apply currently are: Training and education, developing my craft, and Perseverance- In my twelve-year career as being makeup artist, I have devoted several hours during my downtime on several models faces, perfecting my face, and taking several online makeup courses to become a Master makeup artist. I have studied under some very successful mentors in Atlanta, Ga, and with their mentorship, I have learned some amazing techniques that I apply today. Lastly, the main quality that has kept me successful would be Perseverance. Someone told me the key to making it is to NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!! When I started my business in 2015, I had no idea the seeds that were planted would multiply into a second business. I remember crying and wanting to give up on my dreams because nothing was progressing, and I wanted to quit several times. Perseverance has taught me to continue on my journey despite any delays I may have to achieve success. The best advice I would give anyone starting would be: to take one step at a time, be patient and give things time, find other solutions, and set a reasonable pace. You’re going to make it stay the course.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The most recent challenge that I’m currently facing and working to overcome is Imposter Syndrome. During this current season of accepting my success, discovering and developing my brand, and slowly releasing my inner perfectionist; Imposter Syndrome has played a part in my life for over twenty years. I have made a conscious effort to not allow Imposter Syndrome to have control over my life , but embrace and make changes along the way. The three changes I have currently made and have seen success in: letting go of being a perfectionist, celebrating my success, and cultivating self-compassion. I have realized that making mistakes and failures is a gift from life, and recognizing the lesson in the outcome is a blessing. I have learned it’s ok to celebrate small-big success in every aspect of your life, it’s healthy, and the inner you thrive on all accomplishments. Lastly, I have learned that self-compassion is a key requirement to become a healthier version of your best self. Imposter Syndrome has taught me to not be hard on myself but allows myself Grace through every season of my life.
