Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jenni Nettik. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jenni, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
As a team of women coaches we approach running and coaching with a fresh perspective — or curiosity. Doing so, has opened many doors for our entire team of runners and coaches over the last 11 years! We know we’re effective and successful at Mercuria Running because our results show it!
Our runners or Mercurians as we call them are reaching their goals — running PRs, qualifying for the Boston Marathon, earning a spot in the Olympic Marathon Trials, racing in all 50 states, and adventuring through Europe!
Mercurians are doing all these big things, with a healthy approach, balancing training with quality rest and recovery. Keeping setbacks in perspective by reflecting and trying again. And valuing mental and physical health above any running goal. At Mercuria Running, we know that being healthy means reaching your running goals!
Our team of runners are women and men ranging in age from single digits to 70 years old. We’re beginners through life-long runners! We’re process oriented, learning to enjoy the day in and day out work (& play) of training — choosing to run, eat, lift and recover because we love running and how it makes us feel!
We’re marathoners, half marathoners, ultra runners and youth athletes, enjoying the benefits of healthy running!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Mercuria Running specializes in form coaching, training plans with online coaching, NH-based training groups, free run clubs, and European run treks.
Mercuria Running is based in Denver, Colorado, Portsmouth, New Hampshire and online. We teach runners how to run healthy and prevent running injuries through form coaching. We help runners reach their goals through intentional training using training plans to build fitness, mental strategies, and reflection practices. We build community in our group training and free run clubs! We support trail running and travel in our European run treks! We’re known for being playful, creative & inclusive!
We love trail running and adventuring in the mountains. Last summer we expanded to offer European run treks in collaboration with Blue Sky Trekking, a small company based in Boulder, CO. Our debut running trek was so successful that the majority of our participants are returning this summer for another run trek! In 2024, we’re offering two different 8-day treks — one in Spain and the other in France. The running trips include all hotels, food, and daily adventure! There are few spots remaining in our Spain trip scheduled for August 2024.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Mercuria Running’s three values are believe, play and be. We want our runners to believe in themselves, their goals, and their abilities. As coaches, we believe in our approach to coaching — a supportive environment, based on the knowledge of how to run healthy.
We keep play at the front of our minds when working with our athletes, both adults and kids! Our training plans often include creative and curiosity challenges to help our runners stay engaged with the process and have fun along the way! We host an annual run club prom and encourage costumes for running, cheering and celebrating! We know you’re never too old to play!
Finally, we encourage our runners to be — be themselves, be in the moment, be silly, be sad, be joyful, etc. Our training plans include mindful exercises, mental training, reflection prompts, and a space to be honest.
Run with us if you’d like help in any of these areas, these are skills that are transferable from running to other areas of life! Often our Mercurians say running with us helped them at work, at home and in life in general.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
The Mercuria Running coaching team loves what we do — it’s our passion. It’s our calling!
Doing big things takes a team, at Mercuria Running, we’re really fortunate to have an incredible community of experts who support us and our runners. The team helps us overcome challenges, and provides experience and expertise in areas that are essential to keeping our runners running healthy!
We’d like to give a great big shout-out to Lara of Colorado Athlete Physical Therapy for helping us keep our athletes running healthy.
