Meet Jennifer Armetta

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Armetta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a contemporary art dealer. My gallery is called ENGAGE Projects. We work with both emerging and mid career conceptual artists with a focus on painting, photography and sculpture. I feel incredibly lucky to be able do something that I am truly passionate about. I work with amazing artists, and they are even better people. Most of our artists give back to the arts community through their own artist run spaces or residencies, teaching, and supporting other artists in general. We try to make art accessible to everyone and we just launched “initial ENGAGEMENTS” an online shopping experience on our website. Every work is $3000 or less and collectors can explore the art and acquire it without feeling the pressure sometimes felt in galleries. We are excited about our upcoming 2 person show with Phyllis Bramson and David Leggett opening on March 22, 2024. Both artists will be in the gallery and will be doing a talk on the 23rd as well. In addition, we will be participating in EXPO/Gertie Art After Hours on April 12, 2024. We will have a number of our local artists in the gallery for a meet and greet with special programming as well. Participating galleries will be open from 5-8pm that night.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Interpersonal skills, strong communication skills and integrity. The art world is based on relationships as it is an unregulated market. Having the ability to connect with people quickly and in a genuine way is vitally important. Being able to describe complex ideas and concepts in a way that is understandable to anyone, is also critical, These things will begin to build relationships, but your personal integrity will keep them strong.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We look to partner with various arts organizations in other markets. This could be a museum, another gallery with a similar program, or a not for profit based around the arts. We have partnerships in Palm Beach, FL, Ojai/Santa Barbara, CA, and in upstate NY. Sometimes we do a short term exhibition, an artists talk or create educational programs. What is important to me is that we do it consistently each year so we can build relationships with collectors and curators in those markets. You can email me us at info@engage-projects.com if you are interested in collaborating with ENGAGE!
