We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Loehding recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism has been a work in progress, but I can attribute much of it to being in the network marketing space for so long. I was incredibly blessed to have mentors in the 22 years while affiliated with my previous organization. I joined that company in a season of my life when I wasn’t so optimistic. Even after many years in the company, listening to positive material and people telling me I could do something great, it still took years before I began to feel confident in my ability to succeed. Somewhere along the way, seeds were planted, one crisis piled onto another, I learned a lesson or two, and I realized that my success depended upon my thoughts. That’s when things began to change.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a work and life strategist, podcaster and creator. I help entrepreneurs develop healthy strategies to overcome limiting beliefs and grow their businesses healthily and sustainably. The Starter Girlz Show is an extension of my work, showcasing amazing people who share valuable insights on work and life harmony. Whether it is something to fill your mind, improve your health, or help you get better at your business, we talk about it. I love being creative and using my voice to inspire others. As a fellow entrepreneur, I aim to share content that helped me as a young 20-something-year-old entrepreneur with small children to what is important to me now as an entrepreneur with over two decades under my belt and grown children.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that I was persistent, grew up in an entrepreneurial home, and understood the value of working hard. All of these have been impactful in my journey. Coming from someone that grew up in a house of entrepreneurs, I saw firsthand what it was like to plug away and do things even when it wasn’t convenient. Only some people grow up in a home where others in the family are doing their own business. Mentors can be great in this area, and even though I saw my parents running multiple companies, I continue to have mentors in my life. You become accountable when you allow someone into your space to help you grow. In that process, you can strengthen your persistence and begin to understand the value of working for something important. So I would say find a good mentor or support group, stay committed and be prepared to work.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One of my favorite books is Stephen Covey’s “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” There are so many takeaways in that book. I love how he talks about seeking to understand before being understood. How can you begin to get anyone to listen to you if you spend no time trying to know where they are coming from? He also talks about the four quadrants, which dive into where we spend our time. Why is this important? Because many, I am just as guilty, often fail to work on ourselves and then wonder why we are burned out and ineffective.
