Meet Jennifer Martin-Sorrentino

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Martin-Sorrentino a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Since I was a young girl I had a passion for helping animals. If I saw a turtle crossing a road we would have to stop or turn around to be sure it crossed safely. If we saw a stray cat I would put food or water outside. My love for all animals was huge and I knew somehow I wanted to make a difference.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Established in May 2015, Cash 4 Canines, Inc. is a registered nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization. Originally started as a means of helping other rescues raise funds, Cash 4 Canines evolved. In 2016, Cash 4 Canines, Inc. decided to become a full-fledged full-time rescue itself. Rescue Rebels was born.
To date, Rescue Rebels is an all-volunteer entity led by myself and our Board of Directors.
Since 2016, Rescue Rebels has fostered and placed over 100 companion animals in their forever homes. All costs and services for these rescued animals have been paid through Rescue Rebels fundraising efforts.
Rescue Rebels has an amazing team of volunteers who are committed to helping companion animals left at shelters, surrendered by their owners or that have been abused and neglected have their “second chance” at life.
A Veterinarian network as well as foster homes extend throughout several counties (Palm Beach, Brevard, Orange, Seminole,& Lake Counties) in the State of Florida.
Through this volunteer network, rescued companion animals are provided with care, food, preventatives, medical supplies and training within a secure and loving environment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I have a finance background which allowed me to use my budget skills and business operating skills to run the rescue. We run solely on donations and need to be creative on fundraising to keep the donations steady. We rescue the mistreated, injured & abandoned, so fundraising is an integral part of keeping our mission alive. If you are just starting out a dedicated board with members who share the same passion and goals is crucial. Having knowledge of fundraising makes a big difference!!!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents taught me that great work ethic and hard work equal success. To dream big and big things happen!
