We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Nowicki a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcome my imposter syndrome, ok not fully overcame, but mainly overcame imposter syndrome, when I achieved some really impressive milestones. I literally represented the US tea industry in two world tea conferences, was the first person from UWGB (my alumna mater) to be a semi-finalist in the Draper Competition, won an international award for one of my teas, and was part of the WIN Cohort at Babson College. Another way I overcame imposter syndrome is stepping back and realizing if I heard someone else made these achievements would I think this person is impressive? I would. I have done this before when I have been in bad situations and realized if it was someone else going through the same thing I would tell them to leave that situation, This is a technique I use periodically in my life in good and bad situations. It helps with perspective. I am also an over achiever, so many of these accomplishments I mainly did for myself, but have to make them known for my business too. It was hard and sometimes is still hard to toot my own horn, but I am getting better at it.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say being hard working and the ability to deal with adversity are important skills. If you can get education in your profession, reading up on your desired profession, and at least finding mentors or employers in your profession to learn what it really is like helps immensely. Finally taking calculated risks to advance yourself in your career.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
I would say my number one obstacle or challenge is I am mainly a one woman show. I am getting to the point that I am now paying some people to do little, but impactful things for my business. Right now it is paying someone to set up my TikTok store, doing some social media things, and hopefully soon getting people to sell for my business (affiliate program). I believe these are small steps that will help grow my business, so I can have some free time and have employees. I know once I achieve these goals I will still have obstacles and challenges, but it is in the positive direction for my company.
