We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Schiavone . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I absolutely love to try new things. I knew I was not meant for the 9-5, 5 day a week job from a very early age. I also knew I didn’t want the same career my whole life. I think of my life as a book and there are different chapters. I’m always ready to write the next chapter. This shop was a dream. My children are getting older, I knew I needed something just for me and opening this shop was the answer when I asked, what’s next?
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I own The Blue Heron Boutique, a women’s consignment boutique. We have fun, affordable, and functional pieces for your wardrobe, including clothing, shoes, purses, and jewelry. Our specialty is definitely purses. My focus was to give a boutique shopping experience for designer looks at prices everyone can afford. We are blessed to have the most amazing customers and consignors. Deale is a close knit community, but since we are right on the Chesapeake Bay, we have many people who travel to spend the day or weekend here. I do my best to work with my community through donations and events. My favorite event is our annual prom dress give away. All of the dresser snared though the community and given away. It’s truly a special event.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important qualities would be passion, persistence and patience. It starts with a dream. Once I had the dream, I found the location and I just went with it. I am the type of person that when a decision is made, there is no turning back. I also don’t believe in failure. To me the only failure, is not trying. I started out just thinking, if I can make my rent, I’m succeeding. I gave myself little goals and once hit it, then I would set another one. My best advice would be, don’t let anyone tell you can’t. If you are passionate, you can make it work. It will not be easy, but it will be worth it!
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Do more with and for the community. Work a little less, travel ALOT more and spend quality time with my family. I’d hope to find someone with the same dream and hope they would continue with The Blue Heron Boutique.
