Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jennifer Schmidt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jennifer, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my faith and how I was raised by my family. I was always taught that when you fall down, you dust yourself off and get right back up. At a young age, I started playing sports so that also taught to be competitive and learn that in order to succeed, you must fail.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Jennifer Schmidt and my brand is JenniferSSchmidt Collection. I am a fashion designer and have been designing since 2012!
I mostly specializes in womenswear but also branching out to menswear as well. My experience consists of womenswear, menswear, plus-size, bridal, western wear, custom pieces and accessories. My most recent events have included making a custom gown for the Grammys and custom menswear for a friend that was on Food Network’s ‘Outrageous Pumpkins’.
I love learning new skills and techniques and am always up for challenging myself. My goal is to be accessible to everyone. Lately, I have been taking on more custom requests and would love to continue in that direction.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think that the three most important qualities to have as someone starting their journey is to be hungry to learn, know that failure is part of the process to success, and to give yourself grace. Just knowing that success does not happen over night is key. It consists of years of grinding, networking, faith, failure, innovation, and being consistent. It took some of the most famous people 10-20 years to get to the level of success that they are at. So just enjoy the process and success will come!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with other artists that are looking to vamp up their wardrobe and looking for custom pieces. My goal is to support other artists by helping them tell their story through clothing!
