We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jennifer Shaver a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism has always been rooted in the belief that maintaining a positive attitude, even in challenging situations, is crucial. While not every moment in life is joyful, embracing an attitude of gratitude has been my key to staying positive and moving forward in all circumstances. I find that focusing on the positive aspects, even in adversity, helps me navigate challenges with resilience and optimism.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

In my world, aging is inevitable, but how you age is entirely within your control.
My guiding motto encapsulates the essence of my approach: “If you want to remain independent as you age, you have to prepare your body. If you fail to prepare, prepare to be frail.”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three impactful qualities have been my never-quit attitude, adaptability to pivot and try new things in my business, and the willingness to step out of my comfort zone to connect with new people and acquire new skills. For those starting their journey, my advice is to cultivate a resilient mindset, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Be open to change, constantly reassess and adapt your strategies as needed. Additionally, actively seek opportunities to network, collaborate, and acquire new skills – stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to valuable connections and a more diversified skill set, contributing to long-term success.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that significantly influenced my development is “A Lifetime of Observations On and Off the Court” by Coach John Wooden. Within its insightful passages, Coach Wooden shares his profound philosophy on various aspects of life, including family, achievement, success, and excellence. Some of the most valuable nuggets of wisdom I gleaned from the book include the importance of integrity and honesty in all endeavors, the pursuit of personal excellence as a continuous journey, and the emphasis on the holistic development of character alongside professional achievements. Wooden’s wisdom has been a guiding light in shaping my values and approach to both personal and professional growth.
