We were lucky to catch up with Jeremiah Woodard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
My optimism comes from trying not to overthink too much. I have the tendency to overthink. I’ll take a picture, look at it a bunch and start to notice small things that I don’t like and just won’t post them at all. I do beat myself up a lot, I’ve been working on that too. Not beating myself up too much just because I want something to be perfect.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a photographer. I want to make sure I produce my best work while also making sure my clients feel comfortable and are having as mush fun as possible while shooting. I am a part of a group with other amazing photographers. We are all basically family. Giving each other tips, motivating one another. Overall, we are all just striving become better photographers each day. That’s the type of people I want to be around.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities, in my opinion, are consistency, professionalism and patience. Consistency is really the most important. It is always important to post as much as you can, having an active online presence these days is really vital because it can attract more people to come to you. Professionalism is also important because you want to come across as being as detailed as possible when explaining what it is that you have to offer, not giving one word replies or not replying at all, Patience is key as well, meaning if a client or customer seems to be indecisive about what they want, it’s always good to explain what it is that they’re getting, but just let them take their time and eventually they will come to a decision.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
If you feel overwhelmed, just take some time to yourself. Do what it is that you like to do outside what you are doing now. I like walking, listening to music, playing video games and drawing outside of photography. If I’m not shooting, I’m doing one of those.
