Meet Jerica Maness

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jerica Maness a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerica, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience definitely comes from my upbringing. I grew up not in the riches of areas. My mother was a single parent and I watched her work so hard. She always juggled multiple jobs, attending my sporting events and never missed a parent teacher conference. To my mention had time to cook dinner. She was a superhero to me. As I got older I knew I wanted to be a superhero too. She never let things break her down to quit. I will never disappoint her to be that way as an adult. I was a track and field athlete and received a full college scholarship to run. Track taught me a lot of resilience as well. I wasn’t always going to be the fastest, I will fight with injuries or aches and pains and I would have to get threw them and not let that defeat me! These concept’s definitely prepared me for life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I specialize in manual therapy. I work with clients who are injured, suffered from a previous injury or simply having nagging aches and pains. I help clients recover to get back to physical activity. My profession is unique because unlike normal clinics; my goal is to help my clients get back to their active lifestyle. All of my appointments are one on one based and include 30min of manual therapy and 30 minutes of muscle activation work. Most clinics leave you alone on a table to do exercises. In my office that will never be the case. It will always be a different experience with me. Providing sports specific plans to my clients is indeed what sets me apart from the rest. I understand that no human is by the book. We all heal and respond at a different rate. My slogan is “Recovery the Pains, Notice the Gains.” Nobody should be walking around in daily pain; at least not if I can help it. Some future projects JM Recovery and Performance is currently working on is expanding therapeutic modalities that will be offered as a treatment plan, expanding athletic trainers to be able to outreach into movie sets and other needed venues, and also work on expanding space with some other knowledgeable people in the industry.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that I feel helped me through my journey of entrepreneurship and becoming a medical professional are definitely resilience, patience, and determination. Pairing these up with my hands on skills, my ability to sympathize with the athlete because I myself suffered from injury while competing, and my overall knowledge of the athletic body. Resilience was definitely has impacted my journey the most. I have failed and been knocked down multiple times in this process and to be able to get back up and keep fighting for what I know I wanted was challenging. The best advice I can give people who are starting their journey is to make a plan and stick to it. Even if the plan has to be revised 100 times always keep your eyes on the goal and remember this is just apart of your journey and what will make you a better person in the long run. Having the passion for what your doing makes a big difference. Not one day goes by where I feel I’m working a job. I feel I’m walking in my purpose and excited to help one client at a time.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client can be anyone from the age of 7-80 years of age. Ideally I would like them to engage in physical activity regularly. This is important because I feel the body heals better in motion. In my clinic I work on range of motion, pain control, strength, and goal setting. I have worked with clients who are suffering from simple knee pain to TMJ or perhaps nagging low back pain. No matter how severe I feel like I can help. I also have developed a team of doctors that can further assist if I’m unable to. This network has the same vision as myself and I’m blessed to have the full circle of care available in my practice.
