Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jerri Doran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jerri, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I have come to believe that overcoming imposter syndrome is not a one and done experience. We are always working to be in balance with our ego and our higher self. This is a process that has been part of my journey. I have been a practicing shamanic energy healer for 15 years and a teacher of this ancient tradition for over 10 years. I still have periods where I encounter imposter syndrome. Sometimes mild, others more pronounced. I was dealing with a particularly persistent bout of it last year. I asked for guidance on why this was happening. Why after all these years would I still be feeling this way at times? I have done thousands of healing sessions and have many, many students that I have taught. How could it still be plaguing me?
I was completely astonished by the answer I was given. Simply put, we go through a new round of imposter syndrome when we level up! This new awareness completely shifted my perspective of imposter syndrome. Rather than thinking of it as a deficit or result of not performing well, it gave me the knowledge that it is because I have accomplished and grown and is a result of being stretched into new territory. I now understand and navigate the thoughts and feelings that are imposter syndrome from a space of being open, ready to integrate and holding gratitude for the opportunity to grow into and incorporate new experiences and aspects of myself.
We experience imposter syndrome because we are insecure in our environment and the roles we are thrust into. Understanding that this is an opportunity to move out of fear and into a place of being open to growing and learning give us the ability to move through the experience from a place of being empowered rather than disempowered. These lessons ultimately bring us our biggest growth. I have learned that growth rarely comes about from being comfortable. If we are feeling uncomfortable, it is a sure sign we are growing! We can observe and move from fear into curiosity, Observing ourself and our environment. Discovering what we are being asked to learn.
This has enabled me to work with imposter syndrome as a positive experience. It gives my doubtful thoughts and feelings a positive way to frame the experience and move it into a new way of looking at myself. As humans, we have an ego that is necessary, but was never meant to be in the driver’s seat. It is something we will need to comfort and assist with challenges that make it uncomfortable. Having these experiences does not mean we have failed; it means we are living life! This is where I have found the gift in the imposter syndrome.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In a nutshell, I am a healer. I have walked the shamanic path since my training began in 2007. The journey of discovering this aspect of myself has been lifelong and continues to unfold and find new avenues and depths to explore and expand upon. I work with energy and my passion comes from the results I see in clients on a regular basis. When we approach healing from an energy perspective, we are able to affect layers of healing that are difficult to access with other modalities. The shamanic path is an ancient one and found me rather than the other way around. As I have worked to incorporate ancient shamanic practices into a form that honors both the ancient ways with our modern day existence, magcial things can happen. As a teacher of the Medicine Wheel, a path of learning that is found all over the world, I am able to also begin to pass along the body of knowledge and techniques that can create profound healing and lasting changes in behaviors and patterns.
I live in the mountains of Colorado, but work on clients all over the world. As well as several holistic fairs each year on the front range of Colorado. Please visit me at;

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three items that were impactful on my journey are; Perseverance and instincts along with observation and a deep understanding and curiosity about human behavior and the world around me. Giving oneself the gift of time to develop, learn, grow and expand is essential. We live in a world of fast food mentality. Skipping the beauty of learning and growing at the pace we were meant to is becoming a lost art in the western cultures. The finish line is not where the magic resides. It resides in the experiences along with way. Always remember that everyone has something to teach you.
