We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jess Rogers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I credit my work ethic to my late mother. She was a single mother, an inspiring leader and a fearless business woman. My entire life I watched her overcome life’s challenges with grace and unrivaled determination to succeed. She used to say things like “If you want something you must go after it, noone is going to do it for you” I used to think that was harsh, but it’s truly just honest.
Following her examples of passion for purpose and collaboration over competition instilled a high level of confidence and faith in myself that has allowed me to remove fear and take risks in business and life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I was born and raised in South Florida and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design, majoring in Fibers and Printmaking. I have learned to combine my artistic knowledge and problem solving skills with my passion for community organizing to create an exciting career producing some of the largest and most memorable events in KC history.
Some examples of the incredible events I’ve had the opportunity to produce are; The 2023 SuperBowl Parade, NFL DRAFT, KC Current GroundBreaking & Topping Out Ceremonies, Boulevardia, Camp Leavenworth, Mayors XMas Tree Lighting, KC Irish Fest, plus a plethora of corporate and non-profit galas and benefits.
Outside of my professional life, I am the proud mama to two young sons and I love spending my free time traveling, making art and enjoying time with friends and family.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Building Relationships- investing in people and building professional relationships has been one of my greatest skills and assets in building my career, it truly is about who you know and how to connect folks to benefit yourself and others.
Truth Above All- there is a lot of power and growth in owning your failures and having the courage to admit your weaknesses, it challenges you to diversify and build character.
Collaboration Over Competition- When everyone wins, I win. True confidence comes from those who don’t compare themselves to others, but do their best to lift others up.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Patience. I have never been a patient person and in the past my impatience has led me to fail, luckily I always try again.
But over the past year I have invested time and lots of effort into being patient. I am not sure if it’s an age or confidence thing, but I am learning to step back a bit more, slow down and trust that some things will work themselves out on their own.
