Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jessica Franz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jessica, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Lots and lots of trial and error… Ha. And it is ongoing. I like that, according to my TikTok, we are slowly discovering the rules that were put in place years ago don’t apply to all of us. No one knows who they are or what they want in their twenties! A lot of us are trying different things these days, which I love. I never understood how our parents were able to choose something early in life and stuck with it.
I basically ran with one of my interests at first, got turned down, had immediate success with another one, ran out of speed, expanded out of that, had a family hardship, fell apart, picked myself up, tried to bank on a hobby and hit the jackpot. In a nutshell.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
What I was referring to is that I’m currently a full-time photographer. Never imagined my life would go that way, but here we are! I tried fashion design, then acting, did TV and movies for a while, took a job in TV Casting, my father passed on, and my hobby since I was a teenager turned out to be my biggest blessing… I had no idea photography will be my hit.
I love being around exciting events, happenings, and people, but I learned I love capturing the highlights for everyone even more. Like a silent witness – chasing the magic. It started with events, then became more portrait and product sessions during the pandemic, and I’m currently focusing on more conventions.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
It didn’t occur to me until much later in life that who we are, our culture and upbringing play such a huge role in everything we do. The way I see it is that we are given a constantly evolving, unique soul that is in search for our highest potential and healing of old wounds. It does not always work, and we go through many different stages, but it will always come back to that.
What sets me apart is what I was naturally given and what my culture ingrained in me. I think I’m very diligent, can see the big picture and get a quick understanding of what people need. That way, I’m usually able to get them exactly what they were looking for – sometimes even without knowing themselves.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Too many to count! It helped that I had two intellectual parents who basically build a book wall into the living room and always encouraged us to learn. The Alchemist is one of my favorites, because it talks about how it is not always about the answers but the journey. And sometimes all about the right answers.
My philosophical journey continued with Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings, which gave me a lot of the answers I really needed. Why are we here? Where do we go? What is that ongoing battle between our ego and that wise part within us that is generous, kind and at peace? And most importantly: how to keep sane in this crazy world.
