We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jessica Garet. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jessica below.
Jessica , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Purpose is a curious notion; it implies a quest to discover who we are and how to express it. When asked about finding my purpose, I realize it’s not about stumbling upon something; it’s about shedding and releasing, letting purpose unveil itself. The word “purpose” carries the energy of intention, and I find mine in the ever-shifting dance of my heart’s intentions, fueled by the impulse to create and release simultaneously. The spiral movement of life molds my aims and intentions, with loss and change playing pivotal roles in reshaping my purpose.
In my 20s, it was all about being on stage, craving acknowledgment for the creative force I believed I could bring to the world. My purpose was to command the stage, share my voice, and leave an impact. However, with time, the entertainment industry left me feeling a void, a nagging ache, and a hunger for deeper connections. The concept of being on stage began to expand beyond music and theater.
During my therapeutic journey, a new inspiration began to unfold. Therapy became a powerful force, helping me tap into my fullness and reshape the entire picture of my life. I realized that my purpose wasn’t confined to the spotlight; it was this evolving force seeking connection and a more profound impact.
Upon realizing my strong passion for understanding human experience, I pursued a master’s degree in social work. In my work as a therapist, I was able to connect with people on a deeper level and explore the intricacies of their lives. As I immersed myself in my work, I yearned for a different kind of expression – the desire to start a family.
I hit an existential wall when fertility challenges arose. The journey through fertility struggles, miscarriage, and profound sadness sparked a deep curiosity about the human body and how it carries the weight of losses, grief, and pain. This became a turning point for exploration and learning. I delved into understanding how our physical vessels store and alchemize our experiences.
Through these challenges, I discovered the body’s wisdom and profoundly understood the interconnectedness of the physical and emotional realms. This newfound knowledge changed my life. As I learned and explored these realms, it was only natural that the spiritual realm would become even more accessible.
By dedicating myself to self-discovery, support, and embodiment, my perspective on how I wanted to exist in the world shifted. Listening to my intuition became key, guiding me toward a more authentic and fulfilling way of being. In this journey, I learned that my purpose wasn’t a fixed destination but a continuous evolution—a dynamic dance between creativity, connection, and self-discovery that shapes how I show up in the world.
Over two decades, I’ve shed various versions of myself, always attuned to my soul’s expressions. My purpose isn’t confined to a job title; it’s about remaining authentic to my soul while utilizing diverse skills. Guided by my soul’s whispers, I’ve spent years supporting others on their unique journeys, sharing the collective experience of growth and self-discovery.
In moments of adversity and failure, when I sought assistance and tapped into the support around me—whether from people, books, or experiences—I gained clarity on how that help transformed into embodied creative expression. This alchemy fueled my desire to share these gifts with others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Describing the essence of who I am proves to be a fluid and evolving task. The rapid pace of transformation hinders the confinement of self-identity within a specific category. Once labeled a therapist, my ongoing self-exploration and attunement to our collective energy prompted a departure from tethering myself to a singular framework.
Recently, I have found resonance in the titles of Heart Priestess, Light Doula, Creatrix, and Breath Guide, encapsulating the essence of my being during our shared listening sessions.
I approach our work as a collaboration. A space that transcends the boundaries of the mind, body, and spirit, fostering a blend of curiosity, kindness, and joy. When I work with others one-on-one or in groups, the intention is to curate an environment that encourages exploration, journeying and meaningful connection.
Being together with others looks like a blend of soulful connections and somatic inquiry—an artful exploration of the body’s wisdom. Together, we slow things down, sense the rhythm of the bodily sensations, and allow the energetic self to unfold. Attention is brought to the breath, and curiously, we decode the subtle messages the body sends, exploring themes and gently releasing any stored-up pain patterns.
We might use tarot or oracle cards to uncover hidden messages guiding your self-discovery for some extra spiritual insights.
I provide two one-on-one options for those interested in working with me and a monthly online group heart meditation. You can delve into more details on my website, where you’ll discover additional projects like the podcast I co-hosted with Eileen Kielty titled “Waking Up Together,” which is available on all streaming platforms.
I create unique art inspired by spiritual transmissions channeled through my heart. You can purchase these images on my website. I also share mynsmissions on Instagram.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have significantly shaped my path: curiosity, intuitive listening, and a dedication to continuous learning. As we yearn for more connection and fulfillment, I recommend nurturing a curious mindset, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, and recognizing adversity as a powerful invitation to deepen self-awareness. Cultivate intuitive listening skills by staying present and attuned to your inner voice and the world around you. Lastly, prioritize continuous learning, exploring diverse areas to expand your knowledge and understanding. This dynamic combination has been transformative for me, and I encourage others to approach their journey with an open heart, curiosity, and a steadfast commitment to living a creatively fulfilling life.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Throughout my journey, several books have been truly life-changing for me. “Spiritual Anatomy” by Ginny Nadler opened my eyes to a profound understanding of spiritual connections within the body. “The Language Your Body Speaks” by Ellen Meredith beautifully explores the intersection of body language and spiritual understanding. Toko-pa Turner’s “Belonging” has been an inspiring companion, delving into the themes of identity and finding a sense of place. “When Things Fall Apart” by Pema Chödrön offers invaluable insights into navigating life’s challenges with grace and resilience. “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer beautifully explores the intersection of indigenous wisdom and scientific knowledge.“Women Who Run with the Wolves” by Clarissa Pinkola Estés is a powerful exploration of feminine archetypes and empowerment. Brian L. Weiss’s “Many Lives, Many Masters” takes a fascinating journey into past-life regressions and spiritual healing. Marion Woodman and Elinor Dickson’s “Dancing in the Flames” delves into the transformative power of the feminine in psychological and spiritual growth.
“All About Love” by Bell Hooks offers profound insights into the complexities of love, Sonya Renee Taylor’s “The Body Is Not an Apology” presents a compelling perspective on body positivity and self-love, and “Emergent Strategies” by Adrienne Maree Brown explores transformative approaches to social change. Lastly, Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of Now” has guided me toward a more mindful and present way of living. This list, though just a snapshot, is ever-expansive and ever-growing, reflecting the continual exploration and discovery that shapes my journey.
