Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jiovani Cervantes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jiovani with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
From this immense pressure I had put on myself at a young age. I realized I found the most comfort and identity in the world of the arts, so I felt that I wouldn’t really fit in at any blue-collar job and that I had to make it as a creative to feel fulfilled and successful.
Growing up and going to school with this mentality, I knew I would have to do a bit more than the average student because it felt like my towns school curriculum and resources were meant to set you up to become a successful doctor, lawyer, office worker, or soldier, none of which were the direction I intended to go. So, I’d utilize my talents inside and outside of school performing, putting outfits together for friends, staying home working on my craft, and mentoring at-risk youth. Building my own lane that I could look forward to embarking on later down the road.
Years later, as a full-time wardrobe stylist and creative, I still have this insane work ethic because now that I have a creative career, I think the fear is knowing I could lose what I had just worked so hard for if me and my team aren’t on point at all times. So, before my work ethic rooted from the fear of not making the vision possible, now, the fear is maintaining it and all that’s attached to it.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Hard-working, Strategic, and Optimistic.
You’ve got to work just as hard at your passion project as you do for that 9 to 5 you work at. You can’t waste time moving aimlessly, move smart, make a list for plans of action and dates that certain goals should be met by. It’s a great to track and see results. Finally, success doesn’t happen overnight, remaining in a mind state that almost reminds you “that this will all pay off” and “it will all be worth it” will take you much further than most, because 8 times out of 10 it does.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
Others work and operate differently, right? I think there are some people who are more efficient specializing in where their strengths lie and using it to their advantage, and there are some people who are more efficient because they’re well rounded.
Coming from my own personal experience, I was one of those people who didn’t wait until I was well rounded before I started on my creative journey. I identified the strengths within my personality, learned how to combine them with my skills in the music and fashion field, and figured out how to maneuver in the real world using all these things as my foundation. Improving those areas I wasn’t as strong in along the way by others who were. I don’t know, I also felt like I’d be wasting a lot of time if I focused so much on improving these other areas before I could even feel ready to attempt something, you know? I’d rather try and fail, then learn and adjust.
