Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joanne Morton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joanne, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome! Eeek! There are some days that I am confident and relaxed in my daily actions. Then there are some days when I feel like I’m so out of my league that everyone is going to see that I am a giant fraud! However, I am grateful that I’m having more and more confident days. I have also come to accept that there are going to be days that I have less confidence.
In the past, it was that lack of confidence that made me feel like a fraud. Maintaining 100% confidence is exhausting and not always possible. Why? Because I’m a forever student and will always be learning new ideas and skills. When you are learning something new, there can be mistakes. I am confident I will continue to make mistakes.
There will be many forward steps into the unknown as an entrepreneur and as an artist. Some stumbles and falls will happen. With mistakes, stumbles and falls in my past, it can be a challenge to not see them in the future. This is where being in the present moment really keeps the imposter out of my head.
To stay positive in the present moment, I constantly remind myself of things that I have accomplished towards my goals. Never EVER underestimate your accomplishments because they will just keeping bigger. You can get stuck if you don’t celebrate the accomplishments.
Whoo hoo! Way to Go! You got this! These are words that chase away the imposter too! If you think you are an Imposter, my question for you is – how does this make you feel? For me, feeling like an imposter makes me bitter and angsty. My goal in life is to feel good being me 24/7. I continue to push myself through the layers of fear to not listen to the imposter mind. Because I am doing this – life is feeling pretty good. We are all worthy of a life that feels good.
Magic Passion Love (MPL) is a renewable, sustainable positive energy source, found within all of us. When you allow your magic, feel your passion, live your love, life feels good 24/7. When shared, wow! The world needs your WOW!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Joanne Morton, the Positive Energy Artist©. I am a multimedia artist, creativity expert, special event coordinator/consultant, spiritual activist and a Laughter Yoga teacher. I am on a mission to bring focus to a collective vision so that we may take collective action with art and creative experiences. My mission is inspired by Magic Passion Love©. I started my painting journey in 2004 when I got an art studio in Chinatown, NYC. It was so amazing to be able to play with color to express my feelings and energy. It was during this time that I began to learn about the spiritual laws of attraction and vibration as tools to manifest. Mixing these tools, with affirmations, gratitude and laughter, I discovered they really do make a difference in how you feel. With this knowledge, I was inspired to create the Manifesting Mobile©, combining art, affirmations and intentions, I created a vision board that moves.
The Manifesting Mobile© is a hanging mobile that is similar to a vision board. From this idea, I have created interactive experiences, workshops, retreats and a community engagement art project. The Manifesting Mobile© is an immersive art experience that is a traveling community art engagement project. Since 2010, Joanne has invited people to share their positive visions for the planet, people, prosperity and peace. Circles made out of recycled cardboard become VISIONARY ARTWORK. Over 600 circles have been collected from across the country. I traveled across the USA in 2012 for six months and since then it has been exhibited in Savannah, GA, Brunswick, GA, Laguna Beach, California, Llano, TX and Snohomish, WA. I am building a team to travel in 2024 to cities across the nation. I’m currently building a team to travel with me in 2024.
I am also a contributing author in, ‘Creative Lifebook: Reflections On The Art Of Living A Fully Expressed Life’ which became a Kindle bestseller within hours of its global release. We hit #1 in 23 categories and five countries. I am an art instructor at Michaels and have a shop on their new MakerPlace site. In July, I launched my first Manifesting Mobile© with Experts Online course, with executive coach, Diana Patel, MBA (“Manifesting Fulfillment: Bridging the Gap between Executive Coaching and Creative Experience.) You can listen to my daily podcast, “Let’s Manifest with Joanne Morton Positive Energy Artist” on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and other platforms.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve been working on the Manifesting Mobile© since 2009. The idea came to me after I learned about the Law of Attraction and affirmations. I like the idea of the vision board however, using poster board seemed boring. Somehow, I got the idea to turn the vision board into a hanging mobile. This idea has guided me over the years and giving me an opportunity to strengthen my skills and knowledge.
One of the things that I hear from others and feel very proud of myself, is when people tell me they are impressed that I have continue to work on the Manifesting Mobile© and Magic Passion Love©. I am also impressed that I have been persistent with it as well. Because of my patience and persistence with this project, it has continued to grow even when life happens. Things take time. In this world where everything is rush rush, be the one person who helps us slow down.
Being able to collaborate with the right people is really important. Just because you are friends with someone doesn’t mean they are the ideal collaborator, they can be, but more often than not, they aren’t. I have had so many people show up and help me along my journey and I’m so grateful for them. However, I also have learned to build the relationship over a few months so you can discover how to communicate with each other and work together. Relationships take time.
Finally, work on your positive mindset! Do whatever you have to do to keep your mind in a positive state. “There is only room for worry or faith in your mind. Which do you choose.” This is on a post it over my coffee maker. I make this choice every morning.
How would you describe your ideal client?
#2 I am also looking for organizations and businesses who are looking for that unique, creative and fun experience for their teams. I offer Positive Energy Art Experiences to groups of all sizes. Together, we laugh, share gratitude and co-create a collective hanging mobile that reflects the intentions and goals of the group. It’s a perfect way to give anyone a zip zap of Positive Energy!\
