We recently connected with Joanne Rose and have shared our conversation below.
Joanne, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I always enjoyed writing and found it came naturally to me. Before I began my journey as a screenwriter, I studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Los Angeles. It was after joining a local theatre company in West Hollywood, that I discovered my true calling as a writer. This led me to create my first project, an award-winning US sketch comedy web series called, Vegan 101, which guest-starred Eric Roberts in Season 2. Following the success of my web series, I studied screenwriting in Melbourne, Australia and started writing original screenplays. I later formed my own film production company in LA called, Sweetest Pit Bull Productions.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Authenticity and knowing who you are is very important. I have a thirst for knowledge in general and love to learn about topics I am passionate about so studying screenwriting and continuing to hone my craft is part of my process. Spirituality is very important to me and keeps my centered. I love the teachings of Ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian spiritual practice.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Reading and listening to the works of Jim Rohn was hugely helpful, when I needed to get to that next step. Also, there came a time when letting go was necessary too, which is counter intuitive, but I would start seeing results that way. I love this quote by Michael Bernard Beckwith: “When you believe more in what you don’t see than in what you do see, then what you do see you won’t see, and what you don’t see you will see.”
